Just checking Elite would you like more restrictions at the moment? - yes or no will do
I wouldn't like them, but they might be needed. They might not be needed, so my honest answer is that I don't know. There will come a time when restrictions will do more harm than good in the bigger picture, and I'm glad I'm not the one who has to make the decision. My suspicious mind tells me that pressure from backbenchers challenging his position has caused Boris to go down this route this as much as any science, so let's all hope he's chosen the right direction.
If the science shows that new restrictions will not help then I would be happy if we don't have any. But new guidance / restrictions does not mean full lockdown again.
I have two things that I think are concerning.
Firstly, if Boris says no to any change purely to save his own back and job, when the right way would be to introduce some, even minor, alterations.
Secondly, if he says that we don't need any changes which most people see as a green light that everything is ok now. Clearly, we all need to still be cautious and think about others, but that is lessening and might erode even further.
According to Wikipedia he's got a BEng in Aerospace Engineering and an MSc in Computation, so I think he's intelligent enough to form an opinion, as I'm sure are many of his colleagues with a range of other qualifications. I don't agree with the implication that only people with medical expertise and qualifications should advise on the response to Covid. Voices representing socio-economic considerations need to be heard too in order to make balanced decisions. We need a healthy economy in order to fund the NHS and many other public sector organisations.
Hopefully now we are seeing the beginning of the end of covid. Well done to all the backbenchers who finally saw through Witty, Van Tam and Vallance.
