Yeah but more often than not scientific theories come along to replace what non scientist folk (priests, loonies, anti Vaxers, trump supporters take your pick) just make up.

Prof Brian Farragher says the claim that malaria has killed 50 billion people has been around for years but no one can ever pinpoint the source of the claim so doesn’t really sound very scientific.
