I remember the Barnet game when Flashman & Fry were in tandem, hadn't lost a home game for a couple of years. We stuffed them 5-0.
So IMO 2 points, firstly if we get a non league team we've a decent chance of progressing, 2ndly the negativity on here is a bit ott.
We're not great by any means, but since when have Pompey ever done anything the easy way.
In the league we're looking every inch a mid table team.
People go on about budgets etc but that budget is spread very thinly on players signed by others, 14 or 15 players out of contract next summer gives us a real chance to clear out the dead wood & get better quality in.
Our big chance in the league is next season IMO, Awfs has signed some decent players & some not so decent. Jones looks excellent, Hollands should've been & only he can tell us why he's underperformed. What Awfs missed out on IMO was a RB & a striker who can hit the net regularly. But he's a novice so we require patience, what we definitely don't need is to keep choppi

I have been saying for a long time that this season is all about consolidating and learning.Stay with Andy,he will strengthen the squad then watch us go next season.

Fair play to Exeter, who many wrote off in August, they went above us yesterday. Mind you it did help when the Morecambe defender chested the ball back (to his keeper) but it went straight into the net :/

Not my bandwagon you cheeky mare. ;D But I'm sick of changing managers all the time because its getting us nowhere except having an inflated squad of diminishing quality.
I think we all need to take a step back, deep breath & think longterm, not a quick fix.
14 or 15 players off the payroll next summer will give us a big chance of bringing in players of better quality.
Awfs has made mistakes, no one doubts that but who doesn't.
A RB was desperately needed & we went down the loan route with Wynter who is not all that.
Strikers well I've been banging on about this since the summer, we could've signed Reid or Hylton or even both. Both were free agents & both know where the goal is.
But even that may've papered over the cracks, we are a long way from having a team like 79/80. That was a team with real goal threat from midfield to the strikers.

I would totally agree with what you say, Gun, if only the PLAYERS would show some sign of learning from their mistakes and improving their fitness and footballing skills week on week and month on month.

But do they? Do they, 'eckerslike? What is their incentive? Well, being employed next month might be a good incentive for most sentient beings with a care for their own dignity and professionalism.
