On the subject of set pieces corners and free kicks - Barca seldom if ever float balls into the box - not because Iniesta and Messi cant deliver inch perfect deliveries on a sixpence - the reason is that they have worked out that luck plays too big a part in the end result and the odds hugely favour the defending team.

Of course better delivery gives you a higher probability of more goals but Queens have scored about 8 goals from corners/floated McShane deliveries this season. That is a pretty decent return.I agree that he could do better at times but dead ball expert Mitchell came on last night and took two woeful setpieces from the left that using the golfing analogy were akin to duffed wedge shots from 40 yards.

If I was McShane I would step down from corners etc and see if anybody else can do better - whoever takes them will duff some to the nearpost and over hit some - time will tell if we have anybody better than McShane - Millar may be a viable alternative but it will not be

rjc, I don't want this to develop into a vendetta against McShane: it most definitely is not but I must respond to your last post. Of course, Barcelona seldom if ever float balls into the box. This is largely because players like Messi and Iniesta and all the others in the Barcelona team are masters of one touch football - ie they receive the ball, control the ball and pass the ball all in one movement - whereas Scotish players, and I accept that I generalise here, tend to be masters of four touch football (i) stop the ball, (ii) retrieve the ball, (iii) control the ball and (iv) pass the ball. Queens tend to adopt the traditional style at set pieces, and I do not condemn them for that. The point I am making is that if we choose to go down that route we should have a nominated kicker who can actually deliver the ball with a substantial degree of accuracy: and one of the ways to achieve that accuracy is practice, practice and more practice. I have just read a couple of match reports after last mights match - our MIDFIELD players were terrific and IAN MCSHANE was the Daily Record's man of match.

Not a bad stage in front of 35000 crowd to show your ability?
