Not in all cases H. Blackburn is a very very poor place. And even during the Champ winning days, they only ever got about 10/11k more fans on a regular basis. If Man U or Liverpool where given the whole DE we would get close to selling out. Other than that it was only ever 23-24k home fans at the very most.
Those extra 10k fans where never staying around once the Prem days left, and Rovers are getting no more or less fans now, as they where prior to JW's millions. The prodcut on offer is no better or worse. Nothing has changed. Money has, nohing else though.
But clubs like Hudd's Town, Bradford City, Sheff Utd have seen bigger crowds (in Bradford and Sheff's cases they both play in Div1) after reducing ticket prices.
Its goes down to the loyalty of some fans, Some fans stay loyal, some leave once the tough times come. Here the extra 10k came and went like the money and success.
Loyalty?
Shouldn't that be a two way street?
I watched Rovers in the old second and third divisions at more than 70 grounds.
I was there every match, home or away, when very few others went.
I didn't jump on the bandwagon during the good times in the 90's
I rarely go now though, averaging one match a season
That's how it will stay until the Venky's p1ss off
But I suppose the few hardy souls who still go and ensure Venkys remain are the "real" fans eh?
Thats it though Sven.
Its football ....its not a two way street. Its a life sentance (if you chose to carry on going). You inherit your club, you follow them for life. Reguardless of how well they are doing.
If every fan of every club stopped going due to the fact they dont like their current Director or Owner, nobody would ever go and watch their team on a regular basis. As every single club has good and bad times.
You dont support Venky's, nor PL ........you support blackburn Rovers FC who have been a club for well over a 100 years. They where here before Venky's and PL and will be around (maybe, maybe not?) after they leave.
I think we had the same discussion Sven 5 ? years ago.Quote:

Champs explained it better than i did.We all know we d never have 20 thousand home fans week in week out without the lure of Premiership
totally agree H.
Certainly about this stadium being way way too big. Its a horrid place to go and watch football, certainly as a home fan.
They jumped in when things where rosey, and appeared to be planning for something big. They even wanted a hotel at one end and looked into extedning the Walkersteel stand, making it 35k.
We never actually attracted more than 23/24k at our very best. So A 20k all seater, nice little neat stadium was surel;y the best option. They had not planned as a club of doing anything 'after' they won the league. It was all down hill after that. There was no long term plan, it was a case of throw a load of someone elses money at it, win the league, celebrate like mad .....we may aswell have packed up that day at Anfield, as they never planned PAST that great day.
The years after, had we had a smaller ground, we would've always been selling out, like H says, a demand for a product means its sought after. People had gotten too used to Rovers being a Prem

I understand that it's the "club" not the current owner or manager.
But that was the case in the past when it was a game and a team often involved local players.
It hasn't been like that for at least a generation.
Players, managers and agents make an absolute fortune and no longer deserve any loyalty - just lok at our shower and those at Villa, a disgrace to any "profession".

Yes I'm sure we've had the same conversation many times and there are no rights or wrongs.
I'd rather have kept our good and pride intact irrespective of the cost to league position
