I have sat patiently here and have so far received no barrowloads of praise for my wonderful prediction. I will now tuck my crystal balls away and only bring them out when I yet again don't know what I'm talking about.

Take a well deserved bow. I did not have your confidence in the Alex coming away with a win. This season has a long way to go and I predict your balls will be used regularly, just as your postings and perspective add value.
I try to call it as I see it, though I am not always as well-informed on club matters and therefore not always right by any means. Like any such site, there are always good posters willing to accept other opinions and those who seem to regard any degree of contradiction as a personal affront. You and Alex Leicester are very much in the first group.
I hope there's irony in there Furberstreet - and I actually like Mike's response. :)
'Well-informed' does not fit me at all, but I just love my club as it is, was and will be - whatever I think or do.
I also think we'll beat Blackburn 2-3 in a competition in which I have almost zero interest.
But why no interest? OK the League Cup has always been second fiddle to the FA Cup but that competition is being knocked about as it doesn't fit in with Premier League's PR situation. Both competitions have value, its just that the money vacuum cleaner that is the PL doesn't like to share the limelight.
I am interested in Crewe's progress principally from the revenue gain. Hopefully, a decent fraction of the Club's share of the gate receipts can be used to strengthen the first team - trying to be optimistic. I just do not feel the same level of anticipation for a cup game. No league points at stake and therefore less nervous apprehension for me.
The JPT was, for me, a proper competition for Div 1 and Div 2 teams. I feel that this EFL has devalued it by bringing in outside moneyed interests. Yes, there are financial benefits. Sadly I envisage a Wembley final between Everton B and Leicester B - and that will be of no interest or benefit to Div 1 and 2 clubs.
In these early stage the competition has attracted little interest in the past, but that grows as it moves on and becomes more competitive. This time I see the big clubs, sniffing cash, sending in stronger and stronger teams of vastly overpaid youngsters.
Agreed. The JPT felt like a competition where every team stood a chance of reaching Wembley. The only drawback was a first round knockout ending interest after one game. The group structure this time is a good way of prolonging a team's interest, hopelessly let down by the inclusion of PL and Championship B teams.
Will those B teams really do so well? The young players that are sent out on loan don't necessarily pull up any trees in the lower leagues. Like nearly everyone else I don't agree with their participation, but it'll be interesting nonetheless to see how they get on.
As far as the League & FA Cups are concerned, I'd love a good run, in either - why wouldn't you?
