83-88 mate. We were the first influx of Canklow Kids to go to Oakwood with South Grove not taking anymore students after 82.
We turned a few heads when we went up for a day visit prior to actually joining in the September lol.
Most of the kids from Whiston, Broom etc where all smartly turned out.
We rocked up in skin tight jeans and 14 holed Dockers lol.
Happy days tbf.
I was a Broom kid... and yeah I guess I could have been considered as being well turned out but don't judge a book as they say..I'm actually ok
But I agree..happy days
Honky Tonk Women always reminds me of the disco at Eastwood Community Centre, everyone twirling their right arm in the air and strutting about. There used to be a couple of decent dancers that could do the Jagger thing (Gary Something? Neil Walker?) and everyone formed lines either side to cheer them ha ha
I'm an East Herringthorpe lad and still as rough as a bear's @rse btw.
What a place! Health and Safety would have nervous breakdowns if it was still open. I think it was the budgie fanciers first night spot. The atmosphere was brilliant. One end the bar, (6 deep), the other end the stage and dance floor (hell knows how many on there). They used to open on Sunday afternoons as well, but I think it was a soft drinks only during that time.
One off my favourites AC.....LET THERE BE ROCK......
Saw 'Dylan' twice and you have to love that guy....but for true reproduction of the discs we fell in love with....the live version of:
Genesis - reproduced studio sound brilliantly as did ......
Blue Oyster Cult
Thin lizzy
Sabbath
Rush.....
Deep Purple.....
When I had hair....lol
A lot of other bands "Jammed" too much for my liking....
Always got to front of stage and OZZIE gave me a drink and I got so close to Phill Lynot's feet I noticed a hole in his sneakers - put my finger in it a ticked his toe - he just winked at me - To this day I've never washed that finger....he died soon after - very sad - toe infection apparently!
