Had a similar experience, when my son was at school he attended weekend keyboard classes at Oakwood school. When I went to pick him up I was amazed to hear Rick Wakeman practising in the main hall he was doing a sound check for a later concert there.Quote:

I don't recall ever seeing anyone famous at Brinsworth WMC. My dad saw a few famous acts at Greasbrough Club though, including Bob Monkhouse and also The Batchelors. He also told me that the actress who played "Ivy Tyldsley" was a regular singing act at Albion Road Club before she was in "Coronation Street". Not really my cup of tea though - I don't think they had any famous 1970s rock bands on at Greasbrough WMC.Quote:

Got asked to leave Greasbrough club with mates after a famous female singer had to stop singing when we were clapping on the off beat funny for us but embarrassing for the singer.we did it a few times at different venues same result great stuff.Very hard to clap on the off beat but it puts any singer off.
Remember Paul Daniels at Kimberworth Park and Wingfield Social Club one Sunday lunchtime. So funny that most of the lads couldn't drink their beer for laughing. Also Charlie Williams "If you don't laugh I'll come and live next door to you".

If a turn wasn't up to spec the members used to slow handclap and the Committee used to pay the 'turn' up.
When I was an articled clerk in the late 60s I remember checking a receipt from Duggie Brown at one working men's club but I don't remember which one he was on the Comedians at the time. Bay City Rollers appeared at Tiffany's the week they had their first number one in the singles charts. There were about 30 under age girls who'd actually heard of them screaming round the stage.
I think it's fair to say that watching Muse in front of about 50 people in The Charters takes some beating. Charters then eventually multiple nights at Wembley, Emirates, Etihad, Stade De France, San Siro etc....not bad.

About 10 years later Jean (as Lynne Perrie before Corra) jumped off stage and sat on my knee at East Herringthorpe Club and said "Don't I know you"? lol
