Mel Morris treats his staff just like I was during my working life. Like an employee. You start a new job and get given goals. How you are performing with respect to those goals is appraised at regular intervals. From the start of that season, Clement was getting reviewed and appraisals at a series of meetings every 2 weeks. At every one he was told he was coming up short on every point. It was tolerated when we were picking up points despite the damned awful footbore the team was showing. Then teams got wise and the results went against Derby. The footbore on show was still abysmal but now without the saving grace of 3 points. Still no use made of Academy products despite this being one of the items he was expected to follow. In a results based portion of the entertainment industry there were no results, no entertainment, no sign of changes to improve the situation and dwindling gates. Add to that the non-football related rumour and innuendo (also the catalyst to his wife packing up and leaving??) and there was only ever going to be one outcome. On the other forum I contribute to, a lot were surprised and some even horrified by the sacking. I had expected it.
In some ways, he was trying to do similar things to those which GR is doing, with success, now. The difference being that GR has round pegs in round holes. Clement didn't. There was never any cohesion in his team, the wins were more by luck than judgment and, despite the good start, we would have ended up in the bottom third if he had stayed IMO.
