Sadly I agree. They are doing that to a large extent now with the agreement with the Libyan coastguard anyway.
I don't think wage stagnation is the main factor in people being against migration from Africa and the Middle East, but anyway the left wing has always seen the world in terms of oppressed and oppressors (in terms of the economic system) rather than in terms of nationalities. A lot of Marxists probably wouldn't recognise borders as legitimate anyway.
Agree that it not much to do with wage stagnation, it's a broader set of resons IMO.
When local services are being squeezed to ridiculous levels, e.g a purpose bulit police station in Carlton, jut 25 years old, closed to save money, cash is still found to fund immigrant support systems. How much does it cost to print the multi lingual leflets we all get from hospitals and docors now, translators and free legal advice so they can blag their way in to the country.
I have no issue with those fleeing war zones (who btw, should be sent home if their home country stabilises) but illegal, economic migrants have to be deterred and removed, they take school places, housing, medical services and benefits, some even get bus passes! These all resources that are stretched to breaking through legal migration alone.
If the UK is thriving through record emplyment levels, why is the exchequer so broke?
....and an interesting side-note, with a sporting flavour
40 athletes claimed asylum in Aus after the 2006 games
21 went missing and 80 claimed asylum in the UK after the 2012 Olympics
....and after the Commonwealth Games of 2018 in Aus, 50 to 100 have illegally gone "walkabout" and another 205 are seeking "protection visas".....so there appears to be a worrying trend here, where even relatively safe and well-fed athletes from poorer nations are now seeing sport as a quick way to get to the West....we appear to have moved from a total of 40, to 100...to 300 just in the last 12 years.
Basically, IMO, the poorer nations are seeing it as their divine right for the West to support them, even athletes now.....just my opinion.

I never hear you or Steven Beech filing the same complaints about the Russian oligarchs who have mothballed expensive London property and brought their unique brand of gangsterism to our streets.
Oh I know why. They don't use the NHS or live in rented accommodation, do they?
