Derby loves to be connected to Forest!
Yup, its great when I get Wood
Frank Lampard's 32Red Army! Yes does sound right!
I bet (pun intended) 32Red can't believe their luck, FL's appointment gonna bring them plenty of telly time. Perhaps Mel should re-negotiate the contract!!
Perhaps FL had already been negotiated in already don't you think? The sponsorship deal wasn't announced until very recently
MoP we've had our fair share of to-ing and fro-ing over the years. And yes I'll readily concede the statz will inevitably show you've had the results. Given our disappointing results over the past few seasons, and even affairs off the pitch from managers to owners, while we can and surely will laugh at Derby's end of season meltdowns, we were no where in sight.
However, and if you're truly honest, this is 1 instance where you're surely wrong.
I can think of no single Forest fan who'd want Lampard. Even if he came for free.
We've got 1 of the best managers in the division.
A man who knows how to assemble a defense, and an ability to eke out wins.
It may not be enough but what we have and even you can't deny, is a chance to totally reshape our squad. And the initial arrangements made with some purchases and loanees had the desired result to stop the rot.
Now he has a chance to build on that and get the players he wants. And most of us have optimism for once. The club might not be promoted but it'll be stable and that's the least we should demand or expect.
Your team on the other hand is in need of an overhaul one way or the other. The only 2 players I could possibly want is vyds and your keeper. That's it. Lampard doesn't know the team from scratch. He has no experience. He's going to the WC, can he really be expected to overhaul your team?
I laugh at comments that he will bring Chelsea youth and even more that his WC stint, will allow him to see players from countries like Poland etc.
1 doesn't need to go to Russia to talent spot any player. There's this thing called tv, which every manager can see every game.
Heck we have Karanka, you never hear is saying that he can get us reserves from Los Blancos or even their 2nd tier team.
I think the comment that most of our fans are saying is correct. We seem certain to improve and have as great a chance of not only narrowing the gap with Derby but also to finish higher. Derby on the other hand look less likely to finish as high and it's likely to take Lampard some time to come to grips with the Championship.
Whether he's given that time is highly questionable.
To end, let me simmarise, simply put - whatever mistakes Forest have made over the years, it seems your club is trying it's darn hardrest to emulate.
Well I've come out to put my head on the chopping block. Let's see whether I'm proven right in a year's time. And I really like to read your thoughts on the matter, as frankly as you can.
Rom,
Well in all honesty I have to admit you have a decent Manager in the Krank, if Forest give him cash and everything he wants he could do well but don't forget he's also known for throwing his toys out of the pram if he don't get his own way. Remember when he did the walkout at Boro, falling out with his players!
When Derby signed Nigel Pearson many thought (including me) that we had signed one of the best Championship managers around at that time and all he did really was break the backbone of the team and upset the dressing room. This just shows you can't take anything for granted,
Lampard wouldn't have been my choice but saying that I think it's time for a change, we've tried other options and they've never worked, so going down the road of a young hungry manager might be the way to go. I know it's a gamble but so is any other manager.
I remember when Dave Mackay took over and a lot of folk thought it could be the wrong move going into management so quickly with Derby, but IMO I thought his team, well perhaps Cloughs team which Mackay slightly altered was the best team Derby ever had, adding Charlie George, Franny Lee, Bruce Rioch etc made us something special, I'm just hoping Lampard might do something similar.
All in all he's a decent bloke and a winner and I'm hoping he will have some decent contacts, one thing I will guarantee we'll be watching better football next season, Rowetts team was so boring to watch and I'm confident that will change.
Anyway I'm looking forward to see how this pans out, it could be a Mel Morris masterstroke!!!
It will be interesting to see how both clubs perform under these new managers come the end of next season and which team ends up with the bragging rights!
Interesting and well put piece Romanis. As many of us have already said, you included, Lamps is a gamble. Our recent history with a world class coach in the shape of Clement and a proven Championship manager in Pearson proves the point that Lamps isn't alone in being a gamble. Going back 41 years, Tommy Doc was a successful manager, look what he did to us. Ruined us. To his credit, he did say in his memoires that he was wrong to break the team up wholesale in one fell swoop and should have done it over 2 to 3 seasons.
Lamps is missing one, very important thing. Experience. The only way to get that is through doing the job.
Lamps brings....
Work ethic
Thirst for success
Enthusiasm
Almost guaranteed Jody Morris, highly acclaimed as a coach albeit with Chelsea U18
Knowledge of the game
Experience of several top managers, their good and bad points. he will take the good and mould them into his way of doing things.
Intelligence
He is very articulate
He thinks about the game
As I said elsewhere, this appointment might just be a stroke of genius. It might also be the dumbest move we could have made. That is the gamble. As the SAS tell us, he who dares, wins. In this case we have a new appointee with lots of positives and 1 large negative. I am excited at the prospect of seeing what he brings to the club. Anybody who saw his 1st press conference yesterday will agree that he certainly talks the talk. Now he will have to prove that he can walk the walk.
Albert Einstein, I think it was, who said that madness is doing something 1000 times and failing, doing the same thing the 1001st and hoping for a different outcome. Over the past decade, appointments that seemed to have value of experienced managers and one top class first team coach with national and European prizes in his trophy cabinet have all failed to get us promoted. Lamps might also fail. He might have us Champions of England in 3 to 4 years as happened at Leicester. Nobody knows. Derby fans are hoping he does very well. Other clubs' fans are waiting for the first dropped point to scream told you so, inexperience never works.....
We live in hope that the coming roller coaster ride has a better ending than the previous 11.
Its at times like these, 24 hours on, that I really miss the input of Spunky on this matter. His insight and cutting edge sarcasm could have enlightened us on this tricky conundrum as to whether this is a good appointment or not. So much uncertainty, so much conflicting feeling on the topic. Ah well.
That aside he must be so pissed off at being denied the opportunity to cream his jeans whilst spouting *******s. He could have switched sides on the debate so many times he would have confused himself as well as everyone else. The one time this year that there is a bit of controversy and divisiveness in the forum and he is on the outside looking in. it really does make me smile. if you are out there reading the forum still, hhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, you're ****
