The number 9 shirt

Was, is and always will be special. Bit like Man U and no 7.

Should retire it until someone suitable appears and perfoms at the level required for at least two seasons.

Unreasonable maybe, but thats just me being picky.

Too special to be worm under the Ashley era...needs to be retired until a new owner comes in...

We're talking of Ashley here...can you imagine our record signing could end up being Rondon dawning the number 9...

It's a mockery under Ashley....needs to be retired until we actually show some ambition worthy Of the gersey

Didn't he get a hat trick against Liverpool on his debut and smashed his face on the post scoring the third. Came round in the dressing room and asked if he'd scored.

Not quite Bill he already had his hattrick and Clemence took a goalkick and kicked it straight to Supermac who then run on and tried to lob the keeper but they both collided and he got carried off.

Remember it well I used to do a lot of electrical work for Malcom as he had a few boutiques in Town and Sunderland. A really nice guy to work for.

He was some tough lad with a never say die attitude . It just shows that gems are still out there


He was a full back playing non league and Bobby Robson bought him for Fulham for £1,000 and converted him to a no 9.


I wish we could have that sort of luck/foresight these days.

I was there,Clemence knocked some of Supermac teeth out.

Ferdinand handing the no 9 over to Shearer, that's a beautiful gesture.

Ferdinand wasn't happy about it. It's in Keegans 1st book. He then tried to demand the 99 shirt...

Keegan had to talk sense into him.

Shearer at 9 and big Les at 10 was Keegan's decision.

I honestly doubt Shearer would've joined if he hadn't been guaranteed the no 9.

I don't think Shearer would have played anywhere in his senior career unless he was number 9.
