Ford Anglia, the square shaped model, some of which were also badged as the Popular model. Nice dark blue colour, three speed gearbox, no synchromesh on bottom gear, 1172cc sidevalve engine. Also had those awful windscreen wipers that went slower the faster you drove! I was the first in my group of mates to pass the driving test and have a car, made me quite popular!

Ive driven mostly Ford's in my time actually (I dont know why!).. like Escorts & Fiestas & Mondeos.

It was a fantastic drive.....when I left Dunlop Slazenger in 1997 I bought it from them for £3300 with about 90,000 on the clock and then used it as my “van” and transport for 18 months before my wife then had it as her car and then I lent it to a friend setting up his new business for a year free of charge to help him out.
I sold it for £2000 with about 140,000 on the clock and it still drove as sweet as a nut.
In recent years I’ve been lucky enough to own Audi R8’s and a BMW i8 but I can honestly say that that first range Mondeo was as good a car for feel and fun to drive as anything I’ve ever owned.
For not massive money Ford have made some wonderful “drivers” cars.
I’ve always been a Ford fan hence the four Ford Carpri’s I owned as a kid.
I recently sold my R8 and I’m looking for an identical 1973 Ford Capri 1600GT in the orangey red colour with black vinyl roof to relive my youth.
I bought mine for £1095 in 1979 and I saw a mint one identical last year in Shrewsbury for £24k😩

Mondeo though .........fabulous car.
A Singer Gazelle. Posh red leather seats. Walnut dash. A full single seat in the front to get close and personal with certain passengers. It was about 12 years old when I piocked it up for a song. I kept it for several years.
Loved my Capri back in the 70's. I had a black JPs which was quite a bird puller. Only trouble was that I had to have two breeze blocks in the boot during the Winter to stop the back sliding around.
Hey Mick, thats interesting to see you say that. Ive noticed that for whatever reason, some driving fans out there tend to knock Ford's more than any other make, and I cant understand this.
Surely we can only call it as it is, and if it suits us to drive, then who cares eh ? lol.
Hey as a kid at the time I loved the Capri's on The Professionals, and I preferred Bodie's silver one instead of Doyle's gold one. ;D

When i went fetch it the owner said it hasn't got a battery, but we can jump start it and proving you don't stall you can drive home to West Brom from Halesowen. Managed to get it home, went up the scrapyard and got a battery for a £1, starting handle was used a lot.
