Ive just had a look to see where Brunton Park is, its a stones throw from the city centre, and not far from the M6, prime position. Its no where near the sea, which i thought it must be. The flooding must be due to rain, so drainage is the problem then.
The Fens were bogs until a dutch engineer got his hands on it in 16 something or other. There are two villages called Waterbeach and Landbeach about five miles outside of Cambridge. That was where the bogs became firm land. Cambridge is well in land. My guess is that Brunton Park is salvagable.

Have another look and see where the river is.
