Bring back Grammar Schools.

I went to Haslingden Modern which was a secondary school. The kids from Haslingden Grammar School looked down on us like we were sh-it on their shoes.

Our girls pasted them annually at netball while we stuffed them regally every season at cricket and football. Oh the joy! :D

Our GCSE results surpassed them as well in my last year and I was offered a place at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School, but I decided to get on the money mill and go to work instead.

I think we can all agree that our education system needs equalising though, can't we? Otherwise we will end up with more clowns like this running the show.

I went to Haslingden Grammar and I found a little bit of snobbery but most of us were fine.The Headmaster was very strict.My recollection from football was the rivalry with the other Grammar school in Waterfoot,I don't remember ever playing against your lot but if we did we would have won.

Seeing that every year the under 15's (year 4) Rossendale Schoolboys football team comprised usually of 6 from our lot and five from St Ambrose, I think not barrie my boy!

Incidentally, BRGS were cannon fodder for us! An old Baxenden bred pal of mine John Davies was the exception to the rule at HGS, he was excellent at cricket and not bad at footie for a grammar school lad. :P

QEGS were a different class, but we usually knocked five past them!

We had one lad from Baxenden who was brilliant.Playing centre forward for Lancashire schoolboys at 15.Trials with Burnley but I think he was having a bit of trouble with his weight & fitness by then,name of Brian Tomlinson.

I played with Brian for about five seasons. He could certainly play football, but he had a serious "attitude problem" when it came to training. I guess that's why he had a "bit of trouble with his weight & fitness"?

I have a photo on my study wall of the team which me and Brian played in and swept all before us. :o

I was in the same class with Brian for 5 years,a bit laid back & quiet off the field.

Really, how do you know that, did they do A levels in Clairvoyance at Haslingden Modern ?
