Having read some more about this, Gordon hasn't signed professional terms with Derby and the deal could be up to £3 million with add ons. Still seems a cheap deal, but under current arrangements (which the EFL agreed) thats how Prem clubs can cream off young talent relatively cheaply.
I suppose it's too much to hope that Kaide chooses to stay at a club where he'll get 1st team game time as opposed to moving to a club that will loan him elsewhere, possibly below Championship level?
Its a difficult one, on the face of it that might be the better option, but then which ambitious player is going to turn down the opportunity to sign for a "big" club? I mean there are parallels with Lampard's decision to go to Chelski, that opportunity may never present itself again and the financial rewards are huge, but developing ones experience and skill at a club like Derby is possibly the better option.
But for a player he could suffer a career threatening injury at any time, signing this deal at least provides some financial security.
I do feel its bad for football for the big clubs to hoover up all the young talent, many of whom never seem to end up playing for the club.
The simple facts are that the academy is being used to develop talent which can be sold to fund the crap management from the board. How many managers has Mel had to pay off in the last few years....to many thats for sure.
Seems like he’s gone to Liverpool for £1m possibly rising to £3m. Good luck to him...no one objects when we ‘nick’ talent from smaller clubs/Scotland.
Talent......Scotland...... bit of a non sequitor there isnt there?
Did he go then?? 01:30 now and can’t see anything!! Hopefully staying with us!!
