the system is not working... you cannot have your fullbacks so high in a back four. you need to play either a three at the back or two centre halve with two defensive midfielders. 3 5 1 1 or 3 5 2 is the only way to play this system. so many goals against have come directly from losing the ball on the edge of their penalty box. with three upfront three mid and two attacking fullbacks... there are too many bodies occupying the same space... and literally no-one in a decent defensive positions. this cannot carry on, we will be drawn into
regulation if we are not very careful. i trust that Gerrard will sort this out rapidly. we were not as poor as last week, we should have had a pen, the ref was shocking, and the wind didn't help... but we have to make our luck. sort it now please!
I think he's running out of ideas, his words at the end of the game about having an honest conversation and the standards expected is exactly the same as when he walked in the door. His management team are supposed to be top class but we're getting worse, he drops Watkins and then Luiz is the first to be subbed off - is he influenced by the noise on social media?

Not only are we exposed on the counter I don’t remember one corner where we were first to the ball. Set piece deliveries have been woeful. Even when we were in their final third we couldn’t create chances which is astounding when you look at the creative players we have. So frustrating! when you look at the side on paper we should be tearing it up.
The tactic of "vacant midfield" is supposed to mean the midfield 3 cover the gaps left by the wing backs attacking. Problem is for us, it just means there's no one there!
We don't have the midfield to do this. City used to struggle with doing it before they had Gundogan and Rodri.
Its too much to ask, especially as we do NOT have a defensive midfielder without Nakamba being fit.
3 CBs would offer some protection but the midfield would still be very lightweight and then you cannot play 2ith 2 x number 10s.
