we are in for another Salzburg player by the start of the season we will have recruited all of them on the cheap lol. Someone started a thread to broaden our horizons lol well this takes the cake.
Is it not a pleasant change tho for us to go raiding the best players of other teams rather than have the likes of Bumley come after our players.
Yes, but there is a gigantic difference. RB Salzburg are champions of their domestic league. Made it to the knockout stages of Champions League. When Burnley took Wood, Taylor we were in Championship trying to keep our best players to give us a chance to get promoted.
Playing devil's advocate, if Ted has managed RB Salzburg and knows the squad and having managed Leeda for a short while. Can't it be assumed that Ted has identified players that will enhance what we already have?
Maybe I am giving him too much credit but it seems logical to me.
Salzburg won the Austrian Bundesliga in seasons 2006–07, 2008–09, 2009–10, 2011–12, 2013–14, 2014–15, 2015–16, 2016–17, 2017–18, 2018–19, 2019–20, 2020–21, 2021–22, a big fish in a relatively small pool, able to win before, during and after Marsch was coach there. He lasted less than a season at Leipzig.
In addition to the American investor influence that is at play now we have secured PL status, I suspect that it's as much about Marsch being "comfortable" with players being picked from a squad that were successful before he arrived at Salzburg and continued to be so after he left for Leipzig (Assuming he has any influence over those incomings?). Whether they are any good we will see come August.
If nothing else, he will have a much better understanding of the pool of players at his disposal next season and the performance of “his” team can and will be judged accordingly.
Bielsa would be a hard act to follow for anyone and I hope Marsch is able to make things work.
We shall see…
