Ardley vs The Fish

Really hope Neil Ardley and Solihull win the day. It would prove that splashing big money does not guarantee success i.e. Wrexham and Chesterfield.

Also I detest Grimsby fans for trying to take football back to the 1980s: trashing trains, invading the pitch, racially abusing players and being generally f**kin' obnoxious - " look how hard we are", Pontoon Boot Boys blah blah blah....

At some point the Notts fans who hate this QUOTE:' Tinpot league' have to wake up and accept that this league is anything but 'Tinpot' - it's a damn sight harder to get out of than the leagues above it.

Depending on how our recruitment and the new manager search goes, i'd put our chances of promotion next season at playoffs at best BUT of course I always live in hope...

Quality will always get you far, but sometimes you just need to have the character, energy and desire. That can be the difference when you are dealing with such fine margins.

Neal Ardley is a good man and promotion would be deserved. He’s clearly managed to get a good tune out of the players that he’s got to only lose one game in the last 24 which was against Stockport.

As others have said I’d like to Grimsby get promoted because they have shown what’s required in the playoffs. After a long season they have played an additional 4 hours of football with both the QF against us and SF against Wrexham both going into extra time. It’s is a lot of energy and resilience that might see them through again. The only doubt really is whether that amount of effort and energy in those two games will have taken anything out of them and whether they can do it again for the third and final time.

Yep, got to answer wearing your Notts hat. If i took it off (which I’m not), would be very pleased for NA - not to mention £100 better off)

I didn't see Grimsby as a particularly outstanding team to be feared this season. The reason they are where we should have been was, in my opinion, our fault rather than their superiority on the field and we didn't play particularly well on that day. On our day we could have held our own with any of the promoted teams, our collapses were inexplicable unless you blame our tactics rather than the team.

Me too. Paul Hurst is a great manager at this level. I always thought Notts should have gone for him at some point.

Are we sure they have a much smaller budget? I assumed that at first, but since then I heard they are paying Dallas 3k a week or something, and I guess that's why he joined them and not us (or someone else). No idea if any of that is true, however.

They certainly have lower expectations than Notts, and I definitely think that suits Ardley. But I'm not so sure he's operating on a small budget there.

I'd love to see this confirmed once and for all or otherwise, though how you verify it I've no idea. It's probably going to endure as one of those 'facts' that can be tossed into the equation when it suits an argument and left aside when it doesn't.

If Ardley can get a club on a quarter to a third of the gates we get then you have to take your hat off to him and also accept that it reflects very badly on Notts.

If your good enough, you don't fear anybody. I think Grimsby have used all their lives up in the POs & Solihull will win
