A crash last year in, IIRC, the first stage in which he broke his collar bone meant he didn't get the chance to do it last year in what was the final year of his contract. All credit to Astana who immediately offered him an extra year if he wished to postpone his planned retirement. Hopefully, he can win a couple more stages this tour and make his record even more difficult to beat.
As a cyclist myself I watched the last hour of yesterday's stage and, as he crossed the line, with his chain having come off, I put both arms in the air and exclaimed "Yes, Cav, 35". Said it all.
Would have been more impressive yet if he'd won with his chain having come off 6 miles back....
London North circular is pretty entertaining if you like watching cycling / motorcycling, the fast food delivery guys in particular are fun to watch.
