I know things have changed (not for the better) by the way. (IMO) But.... the attitude towards accepting not even getting out of the group is pretty poor. If we keep accepting that we are not the team we used to be (and I don't mean the best ones obviously) then standards will never progress.
I'm not expecting us to win the cup, or make top six this season, but.... lets at least have a wee bit of ambition. Just scraping relegation should not be tolerated at Tannadice, for a good few reasons, and that is not entitlement.
What a dreadful goal to lose. Should be about 4 up, but somehow only 2-1.

Being realistic though, it's acceptable only as it's first season back after relegation, same as the Melon covid season (although we got to Scottish cup semi final that first season back but it was rubbish with no fans), it's all about staying up, from them on its back to usual standards expected of Utd going forward

We are going out of this in 3rd place with 9pts, likely due to not keeping a clean sheet tonight, Ayr will easily finish higher now on goal difference
We need to focus on getting ready for the league, I don't think we will be ready as early as the derby though so it'll need a big performance from the team we field, especially midfield as we are seriously lacking there and the fun aren't, as it stands I'd have Grimshaw in there we are that short with Docherty out and any new signings won't have much time to get upto speed
Bringing on youngsters maybe lost momentum. Disappointing to concede the goals

Apart from Moults assist a very poor night from him.
Ferry and Trapanovski offered a real threat on our left. Kai offered little on our right.
Babunski showed some great skill again. Sibbald steady.
Scunnered with a sloppy display and a cup exit under a coach who just can't find a blend with any 11 he picks.
Those 3 centre backs lined up as they were plus no real defensive mid will get battered in the top league.
