I would have loved to see Don playing on the surface we have now zipping the ball about...
The only frustrating for me when he was playing he wanted to take everything, corners, free kicks, throwins, the lot, bless him😃
Happy Birthday Don....

O'Brien played his last game for Notts 5 months after I started attending but I remember hearing the "Ray O, Ray O, Ray O" chant every time we got a free-kick outside the box for a good few seasons after he'd left.
Lovely to be reminded of some of my favourite players: Masson, O'Brien, Stubbs.
I also loved watching Carter when he was on song, and had a lot of respect for Mann.
Jimmy's 'Little Jewel', he transferred Jimmy Sirrel's thoughts and plans on to the park like the conductor of an orchestra.
He played beneath his true level with Nott for so long. The call came from QPR in the First Division, (amongst others) and he immediately showed a wider and surprised audience what he could really do.
Pretty much everything went through the Don on the pitch at Meadow Lane. He could make every kind of pass, short, medium or long, raking or floated passes that set the forwards up with brilliant goalscoring opportunities. Sometimes the crowd would badger him due to his holding on to the ball until a teammate was free. In truth, he was a little genius.
Many Happy Returns, Don. Thank you for the many good times .
