O/T Official All Things Wakefield Trinity Thread And Others 2024 Season

Aren't the Super League team 'Gradings' being decided soon, next week maybe ?.
Where teams and fans will find out if they are going to be allowed to go up, or to stay up.
I know a lot of Cass fans are worried, and most neutral fans say how awful Wheldon road stadium has become these days.
As a Hull fan, I admit London actually deserved better this season just ended. But they are now talking about desperately needing 350k or more, just to be able to stay in business and compete again, next season!.
Its a sad fact though, that most of the top teams can dismiss that sort of money, as just pocket change. 😕

It's a subject we talk about on this thread many times and it's very divisive .

The RFL come in for a great deal of criticism and at times rightly so but for all that their number one priority is to protect the game of Rugby League in the modern day .

Not only Rugby League but quite a few sports in the world today are dependent on tv revenue to sustain a full time professional game , many other sports if they dont attract tv coverage rely on lottery funding , this is why team GB at the Olympics win so many medals today which most definitely wasn't the case before the lottery began .

Here's the thing , these contracts or lottery funding are only handed out to sports which attract decent tv audiences or elite athletes and they will be withdrawn if tv audiences aren't maintained or athletes don't win medals , that's the harsh reality of modern day sport .

There is no tv market for Whitehaven v Dewsbury or Barrow v Batley , as much as I wish there was because I have the greatest respect for these clubs and their heritage there just simply isn't .

Unfortunately that's only the half of it too , you also need a wealthy owner , not in a football sense spending hundreds of millions of pounds but someone prepared to spend on the extras , someone prepared to pay Bevan French the money he gets at Wigan or the other player they'll have outside of the two player salary cap they are allowed .

My compromise and something that Chop has alluded to is to go to a 14 club Super League with the bottom club relegated and replaced by the winner of the Championship Grand Final .

We do not want a situation in Rugby League that's currently playing out in Union where the ten Premiership club's are collectively £300m in debt and three of their club's have already gone to the wall .

In Rugby League terms that's Halifax , Fev and Widnes going out of business for ever because they were sold a dream that unfortunately doesn't meet with modern day reality .

Betfred Championship Grand Final Wakefield Trinity 36-0 Toulouse Olympique .

Simply glorious , a night that will never be forgotten .

To see this famous old club have such a night will live with me for ever , you could feel something special was in the air from the moment we arrived in Wakefield city centre around 3.30 pm , it was buzzing .

Around the ground before kick off was extraordinary with the noise and sense of anticipation .

The team responded with a magnificent performance , easily the best of the season , a fabulous display of controlled , clinical and almost error free Rugby League , Trinity were absolutely phenomenal .

What ever the merits of IMG are it much doesn't matter because Trinity have done it on the field and nobody can say otherwise now .

We've achieved what we set out to do way back in March .

Super League here we come and back where this club belongs .

The future is very bright , this is hopefully just the start of many more nights like this because my God we've waited long enough .

Thanks for that Ethel , I've really enjoyed this season and not just what we've achieved but the whole story .

12 months ago the future looked bleak and that's the real win for Trinity fans because to see the club rise from the ashes and see this old and famous club be once again what we always knew it could be and that's the real success .

Well done Trinity .. and you proper fans.
I’m a Wakey lad who went to Belle Vue with me dad in the 60’s but grew up as a red.
Fireworks and all is not my scene but last night was special.
