Shame, too young.
2024 gigs brought to a close last night with the Zutons and Paul Heaton at a packed out Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham last night.
Both absolutely excellent. Can’t understand why the Zutons, who are now in their twentieth year, haven’t become bigger and, with the greatest respect to the superb Jacqui Abbott, her ‘stand in’ - Rianne Downey - was magnificent. Remember that name, bit of ‘a star is born’ moment.
A really great evening, but Nottingham on a Saturday night! I know I’m getting on a bit but no thanks. Full of sirens and blue flashing lights and the locals looked as if they’d staggered out of a scene from that bar in Star Wars.
Glad to cross the border back to civilisation. Explains a lot. O:)
Possibly because, if I remember well. the Zutons disbanded 15 years ago and have only intermittently performed together since?
I doubt it, having never seen Total Recall!
Having looked the ‘bar’ up I was apparently thinking of the Mos Eisley Cantina, a sort of 1977 Star Wars equivalent of a Wild West saloon, which Obi-Wan Kenobi described as a ‘wretched hive of scum and villainy’. Not entirely dissimilar from Nottingham city centre last night then.
P.S. You’d probably have liked Rianne Downey. Very versatile but with a decidedly country edge…and she’s Glaswegian.
