No one doubts his sincerity and the commitment he will bring. In fact he's said he's gonna talk to his players more, to understand and support them, based on his own career which he feels is an important thing for a manager to do.
Of course there's no guarantee that a more proven manager will succeed. Pearson springs to mind.
However I do feel that your club needs some rather drastic changes. The side has aged and certain players clearly need replacement. Many who remain have tried and failed to get you across the line. I wonder if there's still gas left in the engine for another season's challenge
The other thing is Mel's own pronouncements on cutting the wage bill. So 1 wonders even if Lamps brings positivity to the dressing room, whether Mel would be prepared to back him heavily. You certainly can't do it with loanees and while a good youth coach is a bonus, it'll take a few more years for the work out in to hear fruit.
Yes we all talk about his lack of experience. But perhaps that's not the real issue. The real issue is that he has to reshape the team (I'm assuming this to be the case), and the possibility that the financial backing needed for this won't be readily forthcoming. That's the bigger issue.
It seems mightily clear that Lampard has his work cut out and he needs to hit the ground running. Derby cannot start next season like they usually do, only getting into the groove around October.
It might be too late for Lampard in such a scenario.
And hopefully your fellow fans don't lay into him if he's unable to get going by say early September. That'll will put the kind of pressure he doesn't need as a rookie.
Of course what I wrote and your replies are just that- conjecture. No 1 can say for sure it'll succeed or fail.
Only it does look to me, that whatever failure we've endured, your owners seem keen to follow. We've had too many managers - you've done the same.
We've had a manager wrongly appointed- McLeish. You'vee done the same in Pearson.
We've reappointed someone we shouldn't have - Davies. You've done the same with McLaren.
We've unsettled the squad, too many pointless players- you've not been far behind.
And we appointed a rookie - also a decent chap in Pearce. Now you've done the same.
And you tore into us with Pearce's inexperience. And now sing the opposite with Lampard's appointment.
Anyway what's needed to be said, I've said. For your sake, I hope I'm wrong.
