If we can't compete with Preston for a player living locally there's just no hope.
It is very worrying.
It'd be interesting to know why - if indeed we were actually in for him - it's not happening, if it's that we can't afford the fee (although I read it's an initial loan move so we could have technically cancelled the loan without signing him if he wasn't up to much) or if it's wages.
If he's simply said no to us then it's even more worrying than not having any brass to throw around. If we can't attract Stevie May to come to us, we are in a very bad mess.
I can't believe that Preston's wage bill is massively different from ours. I can believe that they've got more spare cash in their budget (having basically retained last year's team rather than constructing a whole new squad).
According to the figures that were released last week, Preston had a wage bill of £7.5m in league one compared to our £4.8m in the championship. Having said that, our poor start will not be doing us any favours. Most people within football will have already written us off and May's advisors would be thinking that he would be looking at league 1 next season.
I'm not sure I quite believe those figures. But I guess they just show we won't be signing him. And the point about us looking a hopeless case is fair, but wouldn't prohibit a long loan, I guess.
LOOK LETS FACE FACTS IF OUR REPORTED BUDGET IS ACCURATE THEN THE REWARDS OF MR EVANS LABOURS ARE PLAIN TO SEE IN THE FIRST 5 GAMES.THE MAJORITY OF FANS ARE BORN AND BRED IN THE TOWN AND ARE LOYAL AND PROTECTIVE OF THEIR PLACE OF BIRTH.ON THE OTHER HAND PLAYERS THAT CAN IMPROVE US ARE PROVEN CHAMPIONSHIP QUALITY OR PREMIER LOANS NEITHER OF WHICH,IF THERE ARE ALTERNATIVES,WILL COME TO THE NEW YORK.AND BEFORE ANYONE SAYS OUR RECENT ACQUISITIONS ARE CHAMPIONSHIP QUALITY WLL THEY MAY HAVE BEEN AT ONE TIME!
RECENT BAD PRESS ABOUT THE TOWN HAS NOT DONE US ANY FAVOURS AND IN THE CIRCLES SOME OF THESE PLAYERS MOVE IN IT WILL BE DIFFICULT TO ADMIT THEY PLAY FOR ROTHERHAM OR HAVE INTEREST FROM ROTHERHAM.SINCE THE WAR WHAT MOST PEOPLE CONSIDER TO BE "MODERN" FOOTBALL WE HAVE SPENT OVER 20 SEASONS IN THE SECOND TIER.WE ARE NOT A SMALL CLUB WE SHOULD BE ATTRACTING BETTER PLAYERS WE HAVE THE GROUND,CHAIRMAN AND MANAGER SO WHAT IS WRONG?
I can't get excited about May anyway - he doesn't have pace and he doesn't have the physique to be a good hold-up player. I'd rather see what Maguire can do. He was very bullish in his introductory video on MillersPlayer saying that if Stuart Gray had played him up front rather than out wide last season, he'd have scored the goals to put Wednesday in the play-offs. That might be bullshine, but I think it's worth resting Derbyshire and giving him a go for 2-3 games.
Evo's position isn't secure, and maybe that's the reason why he's not landed May. Maybe TS is keeping his brass in his pocket for the next manager. It happens...
I'm beginning to hope you're right LesHiboux.
Something has got to change soon and I'd love to know what's going through Tony Stewart's mind at the moment.
So you are in the Know lesHiboux .evans position isn t secure. He will be here nx year if we get relegated. To try and get us back up. good or bad ?.TS going to keep is brass in is pocket for next manager. What a load of tosh.
Its TS stopping us from signing better players, keeping is hands on his brass. love or hate Evans, he has done a great jobv.he has got players who are decent (not good) and kept us up. But the point is why do people write stupid quotes like yours when you have not got a clue whats going on at RUFC. You have not got a clue if Evans position isn t secure.
