NW said that he would be staying for the wrong reasons and the club needed to plant roots with a long term plan - with youth at it's core (as potential resources)
NW messed us about and AS came in with project manual called 'PLATTING WATTER'
AS was the chosen project manager of
"PLATTING WATTER" - with a budget for players and a remit to stabilise the club within the championship.
AS - and experienced coach and Premier league player - quickly diagnosed our squad and bought players to play a certain way - a long established system that allows lesser teams A CHANCE to beat better team with better players.
THIS WOULD BE THE CASE 95% OF THE TIME....so the AS STRATEGY WAS A GOOD ONE!
NW Put us back a few essential weeks but a steady stream of good players
( within budget ) arrived.
The system of play was as BURNLEY - to concede possession and strike on the break -
Initially the team didn't get it and conceded goals - but latterly we lost to the odd goals and scored goals - the Huddersfield goal a perfect counter attacking goal.
AS was let down by individual errors beyond belief - and referees errors like blatant handball v Huddersfield / penalties v Forest.
The Huddersfield and Newcastle performances were extraordinary and the Newcastle manager sang our praises.
The bad apples had been isolated
( players ) and players tried and tested in a variety of positions ( on MM described as square pegs in round holes ) but it's what good manager do !
KJ will do the same !
But AS was getting there - and long term players from previous managers identified as GONE come January.
I believe playing as we did v Newcastle we would have beaten Reading and PNE.....but TS panicked and cancelled project PLATTING WATTER.
Now we start again....but KJ will ( in my opinion ) park the bus ( as per AS's "system" ) and play 4 - 5 - 1 twin ranks - not pressing high and conceding possession....as Liverpool v Burnley.
The majority of the above is simple history. The rest is basic tactics for the "underdog"..
Play that way and we'll claw it back BARRING INDIVIDUAL ERRORS FROM THE SENIOR BAD APPLES.
Just my opinion.
