"And why not make any signings when we were actually in the Championship?
Just seems odd"
Perhaps part of longer term plan ?
Went up and PW told to do it on a shoestring. Win - loose or draw - staying up or even relegation was to be accepted. The non spending January supports the theory. Then this year loosen the reigns a little and have a go!
Retrospective wishful thinking but that is what has happened - so who knows.
The sad thing is we needed a goalscorer and or retire / replace Wood in January. With those bits of business we could be "kicking on" in the championship.
TS is a business man - he'll no doubt have a business plan and keeping PW no matter what and a expenditure plan set in concrete appears to be in place.
Season tickets reasonably stable with nothing but relegation and a developing player aquisition story to excite fans (as secrecy abounds -thank goodness) TS business plan unfolds perhaps.
Why not in the Championship?
Well a few reasons
Players that were available and would fit straight in are/were few and far between
Transfer fees are higher for “Championship” standard players
Agent’s fees higher
Wages higher
No chance of signing players that would expect contracts lower than 2 years
Established players reluctant to join a team about to be relegated
Plus there were probably outstanding payments still working their way out of the system
So probably just maths and book balancing as major cause of our reluctance sign anybody
I don't think that TS will hold back in sacking Warne if things don't go well this season. This investment shows clear intent and we need to be playing in the Championship to reep any real rewards from this investment.
You've got to let the Woods thing go. He's the club captain and therefor deserves respect from us all to have such a honour bistowed upon him. He must be doing something right more off the field than on it otherwise he wuldn't be trusted with it.
If you go around sacking managers it’s a good idea to check first if you can realistically find a replacement you can afford and could do a better job.
Warne is here long term unless the Chairman changes
Apparently this player would have signed yesterday but he was out celebrating American independence day in Thurcroft so he was unble to sign a contract by 3pm in the afternoon
What a guy!!!!
I know the yanks are quite litigious so I'm not sure if this story has any truth at all
Paul Warne has made 21 year old Matthew Olosunde his 6th signing of the season bringing the defender after his release from Manchester United. - External Link
