Are you saying that more should have just been allowed to die then? Except it's not just the elderly and vulnerable. Try telling that to my friend in his 50's, no underlying issues, working for the ambulance service. Well he was but now he's in HDU.

There are already too many who have died, but if these measures hadn't been taken I hate to think where we would have been.

Incidentally, what would have been a proportionate cost in number of lives?

No that isn't what I was saying, the post was in relation to the thread title, the legacy of Covid 19 it was entirely about the financial cost. I stated clearly that I didn't blame the government for doing what they're doing, unlike quite a few on here I support them. Impossible choices for people to have to make.
Before you get on your moral high horse and go finger wagging remember , everyone has skin in this game. I have elderly parents and children, I worry for them all but have watched my children already pay socially, educationally and financially while my parents have lost far less.
The young ( under 30) have been fantastic in helping their fellows despite having a really small risk of dying themselves.
I hope your friend recovers, I hope everyone recovers.

1.....Stop underfunding the NHS, pay the staff the money they deserve and put an end to health tourism once and for all. You use our service, you fcukin pay for it.
2....Instead of having to import a workforce because our lot have become over-reliant on the welfare state, stop benefits if the idle gits get off their fat arses.
3....Stop paying footballers millions. Even bang ordinary ones are paid a fortune. On that "Project Restart". I can understand players' concerns but for fcuk sake, nurses, posties, bin men, the list goes on are putting their lives on the line every day and they don't work in the controlled environment the players will be in. The nation needs hope, get out there and give us some you namby bamby lot.

Fair enough, the legacy of Covid-19 won't be only financial, it will also be in lives lost which is the angle I was coming from.

The cost to the younger ones will be to a large extent financial for a large proportion of that age group (some will do ok from it but I don't begrudge them as long as they are not profiteering) and to the older generation in loss of life, but to a much smaller number. I guess that is what you mean and I am sorry if I have misunderstood.I

Such difficult decisions to make. Almost impossible to get it right. I am with the Government as I believe that although they have made mistakes and not been totally honest with test numbers they are getting on top of it.

You are correct to assume I had to look up the word 'schadenfreude' as frankly I did not know it's meaning. As I understand it the word means 'One getting pleasure from another's misfortune'. Used as a noun, what I posted made sense to me. As a Left wing nit picking Socialist, seemingly self appointed to give advice on the written word, your diction at times is shocking. A tiny example being there should have been no comma after the word 'part'. Better English would have been - " Well done for achieving the learning part Mr Serious, we now have to work on the application element".

If we're really going to turn this into a punctuation seminar (because this is a question of punctuation, not diction) I'll go with: "Well done for achieving the learning part, Mr Serious. We now have to work on the application element."

I fully agree and can subscribe to this. I think the GP triage system is certainly something that can be adopted going forward as a suitable method for general practices and the NHS to operate.

As you say it can filter out the time wasters and also reduce the need for clogging up surgery waiting rooms.

I would also like to thrown in video appointments to this mix as well. As part of the GP triage system for consultations that might require a verbal discussion or visual review only and not physical examinations they could be useful in establishing further if a consultation and a trip to surgery is required.

So then you only go to the surgery if the GP thinks they need you to come in to be examined.

The same applies to A&E with the NHS 111 line. That too could operate on the same basis with triage GP’s offering telephone and video calls as a filtering process. Then you go to A&E on the recommendation and advice of the triage GP or if you have called 999 and you arrive in an ambulance.

Other CV19 legacy’s are the instant environment aspects and benefits it has brought. We have seen vast improvements in air quality and pollution levels in towns and cities globally have dropped overnight that would have taken years if not decades to adopt. Mankinds use of oil over the past 100 years has been colossal and it has been treated like oxygen yet we have proven our reliance on it was merely addiction.

In fact a vast reduction of the use of oil and reducing air pollution globally probably never would have happened certainly in this century.

The transport industry would suffer initially but if we are to live in a greener and cleaner world post Covid 19 we need to consider in the future how we reduce our carbon footprint below what it’s been before Covid19 and whether we can reduce business travel and work from home more and have video meetings. Or we move very quickly to less polluting ways of moving around by road, air and sea.
