I resent having to pay for something that I don't necessarily want,if I don't want Sky or Virgin then I just don't subscribe,the licence fee is outdated and it's wrong that it I want to watch itv,channel 4 or whatever then I've got to pay the BBC first

Let's clear up one or two points.
1. The licence fee could not be abolished before 2027. However, the amount paid could be changed.
2. Those European countries who have shifted away from licence fees have subsidised the state broadcaster through taxation - which gives the ruling party so much leverage in interfering with how news is presented.
3. To say the BBC is left-wing is ridiculous. It's one of the principal supporters of royalty and the status quo. It has a higher percentage of employees from a public school background than even the Tory party.
Just reflect on how the Government would have communicated its messages on the coronavirus without the BBC.
I suppose that it was very left wing of the Beeb to expose Dominic Cummings when they should have kept quiet and been loyal to Bozzer and his boys.
The BBC have given the government a very easy ride over their handling of the coronavirus epidemic. BBC reporters have generally meekly bowed down and allowed ministers to avoid answering direct questions and rarely held them to account. If the BBC really was as left wing as some claim, they would have ripped Boris & Co to pieces over their failings. Only Piers Morgan on ITV has come close to doing that.Quote:
