Even now 30 years later, the kids still make fun of the Fruit of the Loom T shirts i used to wear on Holidays, personally i always thought they were good quality.
What about the first suit you bought ,it had to be Burtons with weekly payments made on the Burtons card. Mohair suit, handkerchief in the top pocket tie folded neatly in the side pocket in case you had to get in a nightclub .Before i bought my first suit i used to borrow one of Archiemillers old ones, got to say i did feel a little conspicuous walking around Sheffield at night in the early 70s in a Teddy boy suit.
Thanks Lincs but that name doesn't ring a bell. Just spent a while trawling through old photos of Mexborough on Google but no luck. Plenty of old pictures of the pubs I used to frequent though and of the high street in it's hayday, looked more like Beirut when I was last there in 2017 with all the metal shutters. There is one photo of Casper's Coffee Shop so now I know why he's not been on here so much recently ;D
In the 70/80s the company I worked for had the contract for maintaining the heating in all Wm Stones pubs, one that springs to mind in Mexboro was "The Boy And Barrel" It used to be packed at lunch time and every one was a heating expert . Landlord was a good bloke, wouldn't take no for an answer when asked if you'd like a drink before leaving !!
It was a long time ago LM, but i do recall seeing a very large colourful bird behind the bar, but that may have been the landlady
