3 apologies from assessors this season with 1 to come

Some great posts on here. I started going up the football refereeing ranks in the 80's in Lancashire but switched to Rugby League because of the abuse and violence you get in football. Another big factor for me was that the FA never seemed to back up their officials, always kowtowing to the bigger clubs. In RL the attiude of players and the games authorities was much different. I still used to do the occasional football match in the 90's and 2000's during my time as an RL ref as I used to get asked by teams who were desperate for referees. However, I would only say yes if they agreed to one extra rule. If any player other than the captain questioned my decisions I would be able to sin-bin them for 10 minutes. Not a single team ever objected to that. They all thought it a good idea and were happy to go along with it. I would do the same still but for injury.

Like I said they get expenses so £200 for 90 mins you gimp is more than £2 a minute

Expenses? You mean a mileage rate, and a couple of meals? Bonanza

So your £2 a minute ignores the officials trip from Cumbria or Norfolk to Nottingham and back on a Saturday. £200 plus modest expenses for a full day and 90 mins of abuse from the fans in attendance.

It's a deal, it's a steal, it's the sale of the century folks.

It also ignores the meetings they have to attend as well as the training sessions.

And like I said, the time commitment isn't 90 minutes.

Whilst I agree Chers posts are excellent, I think £200 for a days work is very agreeable. Once you factor in the abuse etc then it becomes a personal choice whether it's worth it but £200 for a days work plus expenses is good money, anyone who says it isn't is either really rich, arrogant or deluded.

I suppose it's all relative, and if you compare it to someone like a nurse working on a dementia ward it's undoubtedly really good money. Not only do the nurses have to suffer abuse, they also have to clean up piss and sh!t. Try telling them that £200 for an eight hour shift with a generous travelling allowance and a couple of meals included isn't good money.

I think it's good money, I wouldn't want to be called a ****er for 2 hours but £200 for a days work plus your lunch /tea and petrol and some people say it's not good, wake up it's great. On the other side you have to put up with alot to get to the £200 pound level so it must have to be a passion. My friend refs Sunday league in Birmingham and he says it's not worth the hassle sometimes. I think the FA should have a media campaign to try and tackle abuse of refs and to point out without one they'd be no game at all so treat them better please.

£200 though for a days work, yes please ha ha!

Of course it's all relative to everyone's individual situation, occupation and working wage.

Yet I've never ever heard anyone say that refs are on good money so that's a first. I'm gonna become a ref and get verbally abused by players and supporters for the money!

The more than £2 a minute reasoning has to make you smile.
