Millionaire acts like a spoilt child and ignores another Millionaire.
Does that mean that he can't give his opinion on people such as him paying a bigger share of their wealth to help fund better services?
Asking him to shut his mouth does sound an awful lot like stifling free speech. Whether you agree with them or not, surely even multi-millionairres are allowed a left leaning opinion if that's the way they see life? Why the attempt to shut them down? I thought you righty guys hated that sort of thing?
Not one for quoting Simon Jordan but he puts forward reasons why he's hypocritical. If Neville announces he's donating his fee to a just cause, fair enough.
Gary talks sense about a lot of things and a lot of nonsense about some other things, and in this instance of course he’s going to be called a hypocrite, because when you want to advance a cause you have to invest some self-sacrifice in that and no one wants to.
“Hummel don’t want to, Sainsbury’s don’t want to by advertising the fact ‘we love pride’ while selling products to Saudi Arabian stores, which is one of the most discriminatory countries in the world towards LGBT issues, and Gary Neville doesn’t want to.”
Jordan continued with this message to the former defender: “Let’s stop with the lecture, let’s stop with the virtue signalling and get on with the fact that you’re the same as everybody else!
“You have different views, they are conflicted at times and what your primary view is, ’What am I in the business of? I’m in the business of Gary Neville.
“There’s nothing wrong with that. But if you have strong views, you can’t then say, ‘I’m going to park those views because I’m going to get a big bag of money’.”
Neville assured fans that he will address the key issue of human rights when on air during the tournament, but Jordan is not convinced the Sky Sports pundit will do so.
“Rubbish,” said Jordan. “He’s there to comment on games, he’s not going to break off from the left winger who’s just put in a good cross to talk about migrant workers having suffered terrible fates, is he?
“Nonsense! He’s getting paid a bag of money to do football commentary and that’s fine.
“But leave off with the rest! If you want to have these views then you’ve got to back them up with substance, and that’s where he falls down.”
He's a bit like Ragingpup really.
Gary Neville:Some people might say that his salary as a footballer was immoral right? Most bankers are poor compared to him.Quote:
I don't want anyone living in No.10 or No.11... thinking about bankers bonuses... it's not right & it's immoral.. it's a tired, failing government & they've had their time.. & Keir Starmer would make a very good PM compared to what we've got now..
I think I could have written your response for you howdy. Not that Jordan (doing your thinking for you) doesn't make a couple of decent points that only Neville could answer.
I think the main issue I have with your point is the 'all or nothing'ness of it. As always, you seem to think that unless you give up your everything to a cause that you support, then you shouldn't express that support. I guess I'm lucky enough not to be cursed with that awful view of human nature that everyone is corrupt - that anyone making any kind of 'virtuous' point, must be scrutinised to the hilt themselves and either they give themselves completely to the cause or their point is invalid. I understands this but my own cynicism for what it's worth is that it saves people engaging themselves with the point that is being made. It's a kind of handy buffer to avoid engaging with it - you can just simply say "Well what are you doing about it then? If you feel that badly about it, why haven't you sold your child on ebay and donated the proceeds, you hypocrite!".
It's just lazy thinking in my opinion. A cop out.
Not to say that Neville doesn't have a case to answer, as does football in general with the world cup. But again, I think that this is a hugely complicated issue - football is their industry, this is what they do and withdrawing participation would come at great cost to the FA and the participants. I don't personally blame them for taking part, nor do I think they shouldn't raise the issues whenever they get chance. I find the whole decision to stage the world cup over there disgusting, but will I be watching Yes, I will. Not proud of it but I'm an England footy fan and I'll have to live with it.
Not really had any interest in Neville but as you (or Jordan) seemed to be indicating that he's only in everything in it for himself, I googled his own charity work and actions. He's now gone up in my estimation, but then again I'm sure you (Jordan) will say that he's only doing this to advance his career. If so, glad I don't think that way. I'd be too depressed all the time!
Very interesting that you have omitted the bit of his comment that changes the meaning of it:
You quoted him as saying "I don't want anyone living in No.10 or No.11... thinking about bankers bonuses... it's not right & it's immoral.. "
What he actually said was I don't want anyone living in No.10 or No.11 , when people areworried about paying their energy bills and worried about how they are going to get through the winter, thinking about bankers bonuses... it's not right & it's immoral..
That omitted sentence makes much more sense of what Neville is saying. I know Howdy will be demanding that he kills his mother and sells her body for meat in order to raise money for the poor, but for me he's just making a political point. I remember my childhood hero Gary Numan making positive comments about the Conservatives and Thathcher whenb I was young. He was still a hero to me, and he's still entitled to those views now. Who cares?
A little over sensitive methinks.
I posted someone’s opinion. Nothing more. I’ve no real issue with Neville despite the team he played for. I think he talks a lot of sense.
Is he being a tad hypocritical? I think you could argue he is. Are most people? Yeah they are.
You are a prime example.
