Probably easier for the blokes to tough it out and then find work, can then send money back.
To be honest if I lived in Iraq, Syria or the like I would do whatever it took to get here.

Dave, your post makes so much sense. Who would choose to live how these people have to. None of us. We’d all do whatever it took to get our families somewhere safe. Some may be single men but they are all human and no matter what colour their skin is, as a human, single or not, we’d all do what it takes if we were in their situation.
When you lose your humanity, lose your understanding of others peril, then you really need to look deeper at yourself.
Totally true. So living how these people do within war torn countries and persecution it’s understandable how they want a better life. That said - it’s also understandable how many feel it’s a slap in the face when basic accommodation ( presume far superior to what they have left ) plus basis food and amenities are thrown back in one’s face. I do some charity work for the less fortunate and believe me - some hardworking people are at rock bottom and can barely afford to eat. The government should provide and offer at least equal freebies to those in need in this country too. I loved what Rashford did as it was genuine and many kids are not fortunate to get one meal a day let alone three!
So help and provide for everyone who needs it!
Absolutely if any individual is genuine. That was my point - providing equally for all. So for those thousands of citizens in this country struggling then equally they should receive the same three meals per day and their linen washed complimentary of the government.
I am sure Marcus Rashford ( top guy ) would be delighted too as some kids in this country struggle to eat one healthy meal a day let alone three!
Al, were you not against the idea of Universal Income. Surely Universal Income would assist the thousands of citizens you mention in attaining a decent living standard.
I don’t wish to pick, and I know you have mocked me for being a watcher and not posting, but you, a very long time ago, mocked people who shop at Aldi and Lidle. If those people are living on or below the poverty line and can’t afford to shop at Asda, Tesco, M&S etc. then credit to them. Some have to get food from food banks because they are that desperate. Thankfully there are people like yourself doing great charitable work.
Sadly children have always gone without. Often, not always, it is because of parents who waste their income on cigarettes, drink, drugs or gambling rather than feeding and or clothing the children. I understand that milk was often dispensed at schools years ago, because some children appeared undernourished. It has always been the same.
These immigrants are at life’s end. If getting into a dinghy is the only alternative they have then it shows their despair. As I said previously, I have twice witnessed people in these circumstances. Once was when 50, yes they were counted, men and women were sat shoulder to shoulder in a rubber dingy just after we had exited the Mediterranean Sea. Every vessel at sea is obliged to assist any vessel in distress no matter what the circumstances or who is in/on it.
It was absolutely heartbreaking to witness and I felt awful as they were pushed back out to sea after being given blankets and water etc. I could see the fear and hear the panic as they were pushed from the side of the vessel I was on. What they did not know, but we could see, was that a Spanish Coast Guard vessel was nearing their position from the starboard side of the vessel I was on and they’d only been let go so that that vessel could pick them up. As I say it is something I will never forget, seeing the fear and hearing their cries of desperation of those people and watching them being taken safely on board the Coast Guards vessel.
Going back to the original title of this thread, sadly there is no easy answer. As I posted at 16, ‘If anyone can provide an answer on how to dissuade immigrants wanting to come to the UK or provide an answer to how they should be dealt with once here, then I’m sure they would have a large audience very willing to listen.’
A thought provoking snippet fro Private Eye…….
……£18m - the cost of housing 500 refugees in the cramped Bibby Stockholm barge for one year.
£15.25m - the cost of sending 500 refugees on a Disney cruise for one year!
Anyone suggest that we have a Mickey Mouse government?
It’s all irrelevant. The floating Stockholm palace is not fit for purpose. according to sky, ‘Legionella bacteria, which can cause a serious type of lung infection known as Legionnaires' disease, has been found in the water on the barge.’
Kettering_baggie, re above, they could employ the refuges to work on the cruise ships and save a few quid. XD
