I think the fact of what you say about Swindon makes LW appreciate what he has here. He has in one season built up a lot of credit in the bank and has been part of history as the man that took us back to the football league.
It would come as no surprise if LW did want to manage at the highest level possible but I feel he might be a bit different to Ian Burchnall for example who left at the first available opportunity. If he’s invested into the project then why not stay for this season and next season.
A manager can have a short shelf life if they make the wrong move and it’s hard to find good owners, good fans. As someone else said we as a club are in the best place any club could be in the football world right now. We’ve had players that have been at the club for five seasons now such as JOB and it’s about time we had a manager long term.
For me LW has the potential to become our longest serving manager since Neil Warnock and cement himself as a club legend because the potential is there for him to take us from the fifth to the third tier this season. Without getting too far ahead of ourselves when you look at the top of league one and see Exeter, Stevenage and Port Vale up there with the way this club has run and what we have at this club in time it’s not insurmountable that we could be pushing for the championship.
There will always be a few big clubs in league one such as Bolton, Derby, Portsmouth but they are like Notts in the National League operating at their lowest level. Maybe LW would be tempted to take on another project to take a club like one of those back to where they feel they belong or go to a championship side.
Like with Ruben Rodrigues who was at the club for three years I’d like to see LW stay at the club for this season and next at least. If in that time LW can take us to League One then like he said in a recent interview fans should be pleased because if he goes someone else would come in who can carry it on. Looking at all the clubs outside the championship why not stay and try to take this club to the upper echelons of league one and to a place we’ve not been for nearly 30 years the league one playoffs.
