Same here mon ami, the wife had been going on about visiting Whitstable for some reason or another. We were in London and I said fancy a trip to Whitstable thinking she'd say "No". About 90 minutes later we were eating oysters and chips.

A piece by the Moonbat that makes a some sort of sense is as rare as rocking horse ****e, but on HS2 I agree with him. He also has the good grace to acknowledge that it was the last Labour government that concieved this white elephant. What he doesn't get, in fact he takes a completely opposite view, is that you could substitute Net Zero for HS2 and his argument is just as valid. But as an enthusiastic practione of eco-loonery it never will occur to him.

The millenium Dome was another farce, way over budget and estimated it will cost about £800 m over it's lifetime, all for a temporary structure. I think the original budget was around £30 m

It's not even political is it, as the Moonbat says, it's beyond party politics. It was a Labour idea, the Tories ran with it, despite the full knowledge that the costs would spiral out of control, Boris threatened to pull the plug, but backed off, I wonder why, now Sunak is threatening to pull the plug as well, but Labour want the White Elephant to lumber on, guzzling taxpayer's cash.

We don't know the half of it do we, just what is going on down in the sewer, except it's our money, billions of it, that could be better spent elsewhere, that's being appropriated.

It isn't BT but it's just another example of how these things work (or not). Govt contracts are gifts to both contractors and those awarding them, open chequebooks as they used to say.

Why stop at Manchester or Leeds? Drive it north all the way to Edinburgh. The White Elephant & Castle Line has quite a ring to it.

You have to love Mick Lynch, he calls a strike to cancel trains from London To Manchester on Sunday when the Tory Party Conference starts and reignites on Wednesday when the Tories want to head off home. :heart:
