I wonder if we had a list of players to try and get and we was signing players what wasn’t his choices…no doubt he would have spun that and used that as an excuse too…whatever else he says about his time here his post match interviews were the worst I have heard from an rufc manager for a long time,Alan knill wasn’t a great orator but at least he knew what he was on about..his success at a moderate level at hibs went before him and he thought he”d broke management.but left he blinkers on
He made the same mistake in his next job.he wanted to run the 100 metres hurdle race without jumping the hurdles…
he was interviewed here when “Yorkshire pudding” redfearn got the job,he had long enough to do his due diligence and speak to people then…the lowest budget In the division should have come as no surprise..
His surname should be stubborn and he his very much up his own backside, when he goes to Bradford(his son plays there)..he goes round shaking people”s hand saying “Alan Stubbs”…
Don’t like the guy,and a sour failed manager.
For me he saw that Rotherham were in the Championship and very little else. We are in effect a community club and he is used to the big club mentality. I seem to recall he was remote from the fans when he came here too.
At the end of the day, what seemed a great appointment became a nightmare one.
He says he didn’t get on with the Chairman, but I think it’s more about the culture of the club. Paul Warne knew what the club was like, the set up, the highs the lows, the budget etc. He turned us from a rudderless team with a record low points total for the Championship of 23 pts to play off winners the following season.
To be fair it was a coup to get Stubbs, fresh from his Scottish Cup win with Hibernian, but ultimately we didn’t need a name (same with Kenny Jackett) we needed someone with knowledge of the club and if not, success in the lower divisions. A name would drop us as soon as a better offer came along.
Stubbs had neither, and for me it was the worst appointment in 30+ years.
Watched our bit but still same in the championship we are the low feeders then it's up to the then manager to get the right players in for the club. I've had a gambling problem so I'm not calling TS.
I agree, it did seem a bit of an incite to how our club is run.
TS was taking a risk at the time..
Dame if he does or doesn't with our fans.
Sounds like a masterclass in deflection to me; the failure of his time at RUFC was the fault of everybody but AS. He does say he should have done more research before taking the job - but the implication of that is still that it was all about the dire situation he inherited rather than his lack of competence in managing at this level.
Yes, there were challenges - pretty obvious ones I would have thought - but to heap the blame on everybody else and take no personal responsibility is disingenuous and the mark of somebody blind to their own shortcomings.
