For me Macari should play regularly once fit. None of this 'long-term' / 'one for the future' nonsense.
Of course he's not the finished article yet, nowhere near it, but I think he's already at least the equal of the far more experienced Brindley, and the only way he's going to develop further - and faster - is by playing competitive games. That's what he's left Stoke to come and do. We're not a club who will be going out buying ready made players all the time - we're investing in and developing potential.
Agree for me he’s in front of Rawlinson and Brindley and as much as they have been great servants for the club I don’t really see a future for them if we really want to push on, if we brought in 2 real quality players for them, we’d have some proper competition for places.
I could probably live with the keeper situation for now but still have question marks over whether we need another CM, Bostocks been off it, I’m not sure if he’s still carrying or recovering from injury, a lot will depend on how good Robertson can be.
I watch every game.
Yep, our ability to defend is shambolic but we’re top 6 in league two and have been up there all season.
We’d certainly be bottom half in league 1 but I think we would manage.
Having spent the vast majority of the season in the top 7, I don’t know why you would think just staying up is still the aim.
I suspect we had bad luck recruiting for this position in the summer in that the Jesse Debrah rumours were real, and we may have missed out on other targets while going for that one.
In the end, like Ruben, Debrah was a NL player good enough to jump 2 levels and is now doing great as RCB for Port Vale in L1. An acquisition like that would have made a big difference and it's still exactly the type of signing we should be targeting.
I wonder if our current defensive form and the way we play will put some defenders off joining us. Can't be easy coming into a side that requires defenders to be "brave" on the ball (code word for play in a way that's uncomfortable or unnatural to them) and ships tons of goals
