re: Allardyce an objective viewpoint
[quote="Eggerts_Ears"]Sam Allardyce the most hated man in East London some of it he's brought upon himself admittedly, some of it I believe is unwarranted.
Allardyce was brought to this club during a period of turmoil some of the worst times in our clubs history . He was asked to steady the ship. He steadied the ship. He was asked to get us promoted within two seasons . He got us promoted in one. He was asked to keep us up. He kept us up. He

First season he was s success. Promotion with a hastily rebuilt squad which, apart from Nolan, cost very little to assemble. Football dire, but largely due to the fact we were seen as a big fish and a lot of the little fish parked the bus and it certainly wasn't pretty.
Second season. Also a success. Consolidation and a highly respectable 46 points. An ideal launch pad from which to develop a more attractive, and potentially more successful, playing style. But although a decent transfer budget was allocated it was largely spunked on Carroll, Jarvis & Maiga.
Third season. Failure. Fewer points and, in spite of transfer funds being the largest WHU had seen for some years a lower points tally.
This season. Record transfer budget. Jury's out on most of the newbies because we haven't seen enough of them yet. We should, given the funds made available, be at least able to challenge for a Europa League place. Imo this is highly unlikely although we have to accept it's early doors. But anyt

Really? So you think we should finish at least 7th based on what we've spent. Higher than one of Citeh, Liverpool, Chelski, Arsenal, Everton, Tottenham & Man Utd. And even 7th isn't a guarantee of Europa so you're thinking 5th?

I said we should challenge for a place. That can be achieved by winning a cup or, like Hull, losing in the F A Cup final to a CL qualifier.
I do not expect us to challenge the usual 5 suspects for CL places. That would be stupid. But I see no reason why we should not be in with a shout of 7th place with a handful of games left.
Why should we not challenge Everton? Why should we not be as successful (relatively) as Southampton were last season? We gained 46 points in our first season back. We gained fewer than that last season. In anyone's book that is

This we all see ammer, the fact is does he?! And lets be really honest, he didnt so much keep us up last season. it was more our luck held.
The fact that he has still been shown to be a play not to lose man ,i felt that in the spurs game, and also to a degree that he plays the tried and tested even though they are sub standard, makes me believe we will never really reach our potential unless he changes his philosophy.

The thing is we cant win them all, no team can. And there will always be a reason why we never won.
Sometimes its down to an own goal, sometimes its down to a lack lustre team or individual effort, sometimes it will be against the run of play but the same is said for when we win. There will always be a reason but mainly that reason is just bullsh1t.
Thankfully it is just bullsh1t cos thats what we discuss best
