A long day out but made worthwhile by the performance of each and every Wolves player on the pitch today. I can honestly say that that's the first time in a long time i've enjoyed the 90+ minutes of a game and i can't fault the effort put in by the players. For Wolves this season it has been the case in the majority of games of a slow start, changes made at half time and a decent second half, bar the Barnsley game of course.
The talk in recent weeks has been about constant rotation and changes made by Walter Zenga, today he got it spot on, Wolves actually competed for the ball, pressed Newcastle and played on the front foot. Our attacks were excellent and Wolves Newcastle no end of problems. Romain Saiss did well in his role alongside Onianague and Edwards. Early chances in the game for both Saiss and Bodvarsson. You often think it's not going to be your day.
A response before kick-off was asked for and that's what we got, Wolves in my eyes deservedly took the lead having created numerous chances, if i was a Newcastle fan i wouldn't be happy with the way Mbemba put through his own net, from a Wolves perspective, Bodvarsson did well to get the ball across.
Today's game was a tale of two keeper's, Ikeme in the Wolves goal, who produced two excellent saves, one down to his left in the first half and in the second half where he rushed off his line to deny Mitrovic. Now Newcastle keeper Sels is a different story altogether, he could do nothing to stop the second goal from Costa, but after that he was close to giving away an own goal due to poor handling. The next effort he was called into action he looked uncertain when saving with his legs.
To sum up the game really, solid at the back, a midfield that protected it's defence, won plenty possession and enabled the likes of Costa, Bodvarsson and Teixeira to attack. Both Doherty and Borthwick-Jackson also key to numerous Wolves attacks. I hope this one isn't a one off as now the standard has been set. Forward thinking players on the pitch, but also the likes of Saiss with defensive duties in mind.
I'm glad my prediction was wrong.

What a difference between games eh, and that looked like a very good win for Wolves today against a team in runaway form!
Newcastle had some consolation though, their nearest challengers (my team!!) lost at home to Reading ;)

As soon as the second goal went in, plenty of the home fans decided to go, the sending off then encouraged more to make the exit. A credit to their fans outside, gave Wolves plenty of praise, players and fans.Quote:
