FT..Wolves 5 - Bolton 1.........Oh! Happy Days:D
Seven points clear and amazingly, a goal difference of nearly double that of any other team.
Make no mistake, today could have been a banana skin. It wasn't, that's eleven goals scored in the last three games.
Onto the next.
When I looked out of the window at 6-30 this morning we had a covering of about 2 inches of snow. The test that our neighbours have been waiting for I thought. By the time I set of for the game the snow had mostly disappeared to be replaced by a biting cold wind.
The game started much like the one on Wednesday with Bolton having a few sorties into the Wolves half. Then it happened, the Steve Bull stand started out singing the South Bank choir. A corner was won in front of the North Bank and a pinpoint deliver was dispatched into the back of the net from the head of the man mountain that is Willy Boly. Bolton were at times, chasing shadows, much like Leeds on Wednesday. Some terrific one touch football was soon rewarded when Jota chased a long pass before flicking the ball over the advancing keeper for the waiting Bonetini to nod in.
Bolton were becoming frustrated and several tackles, bordering on reckless broke up the Wolves play. One such tackle flattened Jota just in front of the Bolton dugout. This incised the Home bench and soon both benches were pushing and shoving. From my position the worst offender was the Bolton manager who became very agitated. The end result was that both managers were sent to the stands. I believe that they have now shaken hands and put it behind them. You can understand Nuno wanting to protect his fair players, but he mad well have to face trouble with the FA.
Half time came and Steve Daley conducted an interview with John McHale who made over 500 appearances for the club. A no nonsense centre half when men were men!
The second half started much like the one on Wednesday with Bolton trying hard to get back in the game but Wolves were keeping control without having to break sweat. Several stunning passes from Neves Broadbent went very close to cause chaos in the Bolton rearguard, before Saiss was bundled over in the box. Cav stepped up to the spot and blasted the spot kick into the corner. Breathing space was needed because overconfidence at the back let Bolton back in. Cavs second came from another stunning move before he turned his man and blasted an unstoppable shot into the net.
Jota, who had been booked for some retribution, really rubbed salt into the wounds when he broke clear and prodded the ball past the advancing keeper, to record the highest home score for years.
I was concerned that this could have been a potential banana skin, but in the end it was a comfortable victory. Not the best game of football seen at Molineux this season, but the goal difference is now worth at least a point come judgement day in May.
I was impressed by the Bolton number 15 Robinson, the twenty year old full back on loan from Everton has a dual USA and British passport and has already played for the USA u n20 team. Would be a good purchase if he became available.
Neves Broadbent.
:D
Great stuff.
Abbo', many thanks for your excellent match report.
Nine goals in two home game and we are definately seeing something special under Nuno. For anyone to have such an immediate impact on a side in such a short space of time is remarkable. The togetherness each time we score is a joy to see, from the players to the coaching staff.
I don't think Wolves needed to step it up too much yesterday against a Bolton side that couldn't get near us, their only way of stopping us were the numerous unpunished fouls let go by the ref, especially in the first half. The partnership between Cavaleiro and Doherty is getting stronger each time the two step onto the pitch. Barry Douglas, what an important signing he is proving to be, the free-kick in midweek against Leeds and the quality corner that led to Boly's opener.
Bolton were there for the taking and bar the opening couple of minutes, they were no match for Wolves in the first half. For Wolves fans at the start of the season it was "Leo" who?, but now we have a striker who's link up play is excellent, drops deep, receives the ball and starts a Wolves move, he can also score goals, again as he did yesterday after good work from Jota. This Wolves side are creating chances and entertaining us all aswell. I'm glad that fans are returning, there's nothing better than seeing and hearing Wolves fans in full voice.
Into the second half and the third goal came with the excellent Cavaleiro scoring from the penalty spot, Bolton can have no complaints about the penalty award. The only downside to the game really was that Wolves conceded. Cavaleiro again proving that he's enjoying his football with a good finish for the fourth. Not all goals will be scored with a 15 pass move, the long kick from Ruddy to pick out Jota's run was perfect and so was the finish. The players, and fair play to them gathered round Ruddy to celebrate for his contribution to the goal.
Another good win and who said that Wolves don't like November?
Gav, I have to agree with you about Bonatini. When he arrived the only thing in his favour was that he was from Brazil. I remember a comment in the E&S from a reader that he looked lazy. That comment could not be further from the truth. His work rate is terrific, both in attack and defence, always looking for an opportunity to score and bring fellow players into play. We must sign this player permanently as soon as we can.
