So if rafa loves the toon so much

but you are mixixng up our ambitions with his buisness accumen

he paid 140 odd million for this club maybe more

he has had a huge amount of publicity good and bad

he still has an assett of 300 mill or more

we are in the prem

as a buisness manager as he is
does he gamble giving rafa 80 million to progress say 3 more places than we have finished this season or indeed if the wrong players brought 3-4 places than we may end up lower

ash cant control the players
he cant control other teams spend
so he wont gamble
neither would anyone here

so why keep blaming him
saying if he spends or he needs to spend

everyone thought with the little we spent when we came up and with the little we did in january we would struggle

well we havent
indeed with a litlle more posativity we could have finished a lot highr with what we have
indeed we could have replaced swansea maybe

spending doesnt gaurantee you a a good player or a higher position

not many chairman know anything about footy

most gamble with their clubs existence in the prem and europa leagues etc

we are no different

we just feel it more as we support the toon

stavely isnt the answer for sure

i wuld say with citys dominace this season
many potential buyerswould be further scared off from buying a prem team

the top 4 is a scrap amongst more and more teams each season
the top 7-8 gets tighter for europe
the bottom gets more and more teams fighting to stay up each year with more clubs involved in the relegation fight each season
three games to go and 6 -7 teams were all caught up

people wont gamble

the profit comes from buying a fizzy team
investing 30 mill
and coming up from the playoffs
and hoping like this season you get an extra year or two in the prem with little investment

From the perspective of a cold, hard nosed business man who doesn't care about the team or the area then yes, I agree with a lot of it - it makes sense.

But...owning a football club is, or should be a labour of love. You are in the fkn entertainment business and not running Microsoft and as the owner you have a responsibility to the fans and have a need to realise that without them on board you are the owner of fk all but an empty shell of a stadium. You must care enough to try for better otherwise what the fk is the point? Just what is Mikes point for being here?

The answer obvious to all is that money is the main motivator. If you accept this then, he can speculate to accumulate with us or as you say he could make more money by buying a chump team

He wont do the first one and this is the reason why he needs to sell and go buy the said chump team and invest the 30 million...
for his and our good - its the smart business decision IMO. Win - win if you like.

Surely the whole point about that though is that in the Chimpo he won't get the television exposure for his TAT company which to my mind is the one and only reason he is here and staying here until he can get compensation for the TV exposure he would lose with another owner who would obviously want to sell all of the valuable advertising space Ashley is gobbling up.

Incidentally although we don't like it you can't blame Ashley for getting away with it while he can.

Fair remark, but my take on pboros point (though he posts in the style of headlines rather than conversation so I may have got it wrong) is that you buy a chimp team cheap, invest 30 million for promotion to the PL and suck the sky TV money titts for much less than it would tke if you paid the 3-400 million for an estabished PL team. Thats if I deciphered his morse code correctly.

I dont agree with all his points, but like I say even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Ashley is getting away with it as you say because he is being allowed to. Rangers fans didnt take it so why are we?

I see the point but the numbers don't add up because you could take say a poll on here to select the three Chimpo teams to get promotion next season and you would get dozens of different combinations.

With a push and a bit of luck almost any three from two thirds of that league could make it so if you spent millions on a possible contender you could just miss out season on season and then languish down there.

Few would have selected Derby this season for example over Nottingham Forest who finished a dismal 17th.

True enough about Derby.....and that I suppose is my point.

With little investment in any of a wide range of teams you could be in contention for the big time with a minimal investment. For a slightly larger investment (still way lower than buying a PL team) you could almost guarantee it.

But I see where you are coming from - but any investmest has an element of risk I guess and this is a way of mitigating loss to a certain degree.

No doubt Ashley's been very tight at times with the money but he's also loosened the purse strings. It might not be a marriage made in heaven but neither is it a fire made in hell.

I personally think Ashley's gave Rafa enough money for the situation we were and are in.
It wasn't Ashley's fault that Rafa didn't spend it all, wisely.
Assuming Rafa stays for next season then I'm sure he'll get enough money to add to the team.

Personally I wouldn't trust him to go any further considering the buys he's made and the way he's dealt with them and also decent players he already had that could have helped this club much better.

Say what, can you repeat?.....you would give Rafa no money in the summer? What should happen then in your opinion, does he rely on the young players coming through the youth academy that big Mike has so lavishly invested in?
