Sadly, we've been selling players for a fraction of their market value since the 1960s... and believed to be one of the main reasons for the resignation of manager Danny Williams back then.
What is even worse in the Ajayi case, we did the deal without having a replacement lined up. Amateurish behaviour, compared to most league clubs... but not unusual for us.
When are folk going to get it about Ajayi?
He had one season left on his contract so at the end could have walked for free, no payout to the club whatsoever. Promotions not guaranteed so what if he played all season and we don't go up and he simply walks away?
He wasn't a world beater, people make him out to be the best thing since sliced bread. On his day he was good/okay but, when he was bad he was bad! Anyone would think we'd let the Crown Jewels go for next to nowt.
Moore/Joao, you're always going to get load more for a centre forward as opposed to a midfielder or defender.
I understand frustrations being abound when it shows what we get for our players as opposed to other clubs but it is what it is. We have 1.5 Million to reinvest with an add ons and a sell on clause should WBA decide to sell him in the future.
Personally, I've seen Ajayi and Crookes and I know who gets my vote going forward. Good luck to Semi and all that but it's football and it all moves on. Well done to Warne/Stewart for having the foresight to cash in when they did. I didn't see/hear of any other clubs coming in with more than 1.5 million, did you?
What 'Brin' said.....I'm gobsmacked at the £££'s - truly average players going for stupid money - especially at championship level.....but in an organised well drilled team he'll learn to be methodical and boringly safe.
we let our other midfielder go for 2 5 million with one year left on his contract. We let semi go for 1.5 million with one year left on his contract. See the difference. That's what some fans carnt get their head round. For me semi is the more talented player. So should have gone for more. Club keep saying we don't need to sell. Should have kept him, could have been the difference between being in a higher league next season.
Is agree that he is worth more but what good is that if no one is willing to pay more?
You could argue that we should have kept him rather than for the 1.5 but that is risky for a club on our budget. Complete loss of form, injury or both could leave you with nothing in just 8 months time, whereas the admit that 1.5 releases for replacement could do a lot of damage with good recruitment eyes. I think that this astute recruitment /selling /recruitment, with the right staff team is the way forward to keep our business solid and reasonably successful in the leagues for the time being at least
If a Fairy Godmother visited everyone on here tonight who owned a house and said you can either sell it tomorrow and get some money for it or you can hold onto it for another year and get nothing for it, I can guarantee that the first option would be chosen every time. Much easier to chose the latter option when it's not your money. One exception would be PokerMillersSwinton who from his other posts would probably find something entirely different to do with the Fairy Godmother XD
We didn't need to sell semi. Club keep saying they don't need to sell. Its not good business letting a player go cheap. West brom seem to think they got a bargain. Keeping him for this season would mean letting him walk away at the end of it. But if he helped us get promoted how much would that be worth compared to staying in league one. It's not bout being with the half empty brigade it's bout getting what he's worth. Who really knows on this site what clubs were in for him?did we sell him to the first club that came knocking, who knows. Everyone has opinions and it's mine that we gave him away.
