You'd have to admit that being three different personalities would be a difficult act to carry off, but it would be difficult to disprove completely. Anyway Rats account is being operated by someone else!! O:)O:)

Theres a balance between the approaches and by the way I wasn't suggesting the reaction was hysteria, its clear that if the current action isn't taken there would be a surge of cases which would completely overwhelm the health service and as a result some people would die without palliative care and some people with other conditions that can be treated, would die because they couldn't get the treatment.
However, we in the west have gone too far down the we must live at any cost philosophy. My dad who died of cancer, refused further treatment other than that required to keep him comfortable on being told that any treatment would only extend life by a matter of months. His view was that such effort and expense would be better directed at people with a greater life expectancy, he was in his 70's and took the view the inevitable would happen as and when.
Politically of course it would be be negative for the government to say this, although in the USA Trump is not apparently losing approval because of his handling of the affair so maybe not.
Coronavirus will do nothing to reduce the world's population, but something will undoubtedly happen to restore the balance of life, best hope that its quick!!
Ah...the old extending longevity of life v extending the quality of life debate. It’s a serious and sensitive debate that all societies need to have in tandem with the assisted dying and ‘death with dignity’ questions. Not entirely relevant to the current crisis imo but huge questions which need very careful and sensitive handling...probably without religious input.
On the subject (sort of) of restoring the ‘balance of life’. In the same way as, very sadly, some children and (mainly) female partners are now very much more at risk of abuse...there will, I believe, be a significant ‘baby boom’ in nine to however long this takes months time.
Agreeing with everything Swale has said on this thread, I don't think I have CV but I must have caught something...
In many ways though RA it is entirely relevant to this crisis, we have medicalised (not sure thats a word but you know what I mean) old age to the extent that sections of society demand that £1,000s be spent on drugs to extend life by 3, 6 or up to 12 months even though the end result is a foregone conclusion.
In this crisis we are seeing normal deaths (if your old the odds are you will die from a respiratory disease) but accelerated, much the same as when we have a flu epidemic. But because we have this fetish about the right to life whatever the circumstances, there is a mixed message emanating from government about saving lives when in reality its about reducing the health service being overwhelmed by dying people.
As for the baby boom, you could be right, there could also be a surge in the divorce rate!!
