Whilst I wouldn’t vote for Starmer , he’s the first Labour leader since Gordon Brown, that wouldn’t worry me, should he become PM . He’s a rampant self publicist, but he is not incompetent. Corbyn , and his acolytes were frightening.

I think we might have a better idea of Starmer's mental health and political ability after he's spent a while dancing on the head of a pin. I'm not yet clear what Starmer's core beliefs are, if he has any beyond his own personal ambition, but clearly he casts himself as more "moderate" than Corbyn, in which case he's got to move the party gently in that direction without overly antagonising and alienating the Left who - whatever you think of their views - remain the rabble rousers most likely to knock on doors, deliver leaflets and push Labour's message on the streets.

Tony Blair won three elections by turning the Labour Party into neo-Conservatives and manipulating the media very successfully for quite a while, so much so that they attracted votes not just from floating voters but even some right-leaning folk at the height of their success. But you can only fool your own core supporters for so long and eventually Labour's hardcore and then moderate Labourites turned against Blair, not least over Iraq.

You only have to read the comments of some of the lefties on Twitter to realise that some already view Starmer as Blair MkII, and if the new Leader pushes the party to the right too quickly then he will run into big problems, because even though the Corbynites are a minority, they're a sizeable, very vocal and frequently vitriolic minority who use social media to influence the thinking of young people in particular.

And the Queen gave him a knighthood in her birthday honours list. Savile was a vile, depraved human being who tricked a lot of people including Starmer, Thatcher, the BBC and her majesty. I think the point is that dam617 using Savile to score points against Starmer but conveniently forgetting the others taken in by him is beyond pathetic. To be fair, that's perfectly normal for dam617.

Now you're slipping back into Jackass mode. I was responding to Dam's dumb allegation that Starmer had failed to prosecute Savile when he was DPP. I doubt the DPP has the authority to instruct a police force to bring a case against an individual.
Thatcher openly endorsed Savile by inviting him into her house. This encouraged people to give him the benefit of the considerable doubt which existed at the time.
Where does the BBC fit into that concatenation of events?
