It just shows the arrogance and endemic corruption of the political class, £600,000 donated by trusting members of the public for one particular purpose, but these people decided they could use that money as they saw fit, and with impunity.
I once knew someone who was in charge of donations for a charitable organisation, he got into short term financial difficulties, divorce etc and all that entails, so he borrowed some of the money to tide him over for a couple of weeks, fully intending to pay it back. Sadly the discrepancy came to light before he had the chance to pay it back. He couldn't live with the shame and committed suicide.
