Russell played just behind the strikers at Huddersfield , in fact Herbie Kane played in that very same role when he had a successful loan spell at Doncaster Rovers .
Funny old game innit .

For all the huff and puff plus the scatter gun recruitment policy this season plus Collins let's say learning on the job the league and automatic promotion is very much there to be won .
Question is , how much do the ownership want it ?
What I mean is are they prepared to loosen the purse strings and bring in three or four quality players in to the squad that could easily easily see us get a top two spot ?
This game is risk and reward , a couple of million spent in January could recoup £10m in championship revenue next season .
A good new Director Of Football would see it straight away of course .
We currently have good club man Bobby Hassell .
I think we all know how this January is likely to go .
I was very disappointed with the second half & you always seem to judge a match on what happens towards the end where over the 90 minutes we deserved the points ,but alas the second half was disappointing because they suddenly decided to attack our weakness which is the defence & we became vulnerable , we missed Connell who protects them & the most disappointing was the effect that Jalo in particular & Cosgrove had on the game , they were both given half an hour which I thought at the time great it gives them a fair crack but neither held the ball up & it was constantly coming back at us and putting ourselves back under pressure & to cap it all I had us to win 3 v 1 in the prediction league so conceding that second goal was inexcusable , overall a good 3 points but our problems at the back continue to worry me ,
Where we are at in my opinion is that whilst the league table doesn't lie there's no doubt we are very unconvincing .
It's a workmanlike outfit and I can't say the players don't give their all , Russell can look a luxury and extremely slow but that's nothing to do with lack of effort , that's just the way he is .
As I said earlier in this thread the league is still there to be won and second place is very much in play .
A good January window can take us to where we want to be .
Players are going to have leave the club in order to bring in some higher quality and Collins needs to be backed too .
Cundy , McCarthy , Shaw and Dallas can leave permanently for me but I'd go further and consider the lads out of contract in the summer can also leave .
Jordan Williams , Cole and Kane may appear on the face of it a very risky strategy to let go , especially Kane .
However I believe we need a shake up and with fees those would bring in and some investment by the owners it's a gamble worth taking in my opinion .
It's worth taking even if we fall short this season because with four or five higher quality players brought in we'd probably be in better shape next season to have a right go at getting out of this league .
You could say a head start with these new recruits beded in and a six month bedding in period .
The alternative is that these players leave the club for nothing in the summer and we once again find ourselves still in league one .
My way gives us two windows instead of the one in the summer and still giving ourselves a chance of promotion this season .
I’d agree with most of that.
The owners will certainly want promotion as it will bring more money in.
I think the risk assessment for the owners is this - if they back Collins - are they likely to get a return on that investment in the way of promotion?
I can see the directors wanting to hold onto the players out of contract in the summer - and also adding to the squad - only to see us being beaten no matter which top 6 team we play first in the playoffs.
That would be a big loss for the directors on a number of fronts.
I think it's pointless speculating about investment of that magnitude in Jan because the owners have already said at the fans forum that there's little money available.
As I said earlier in the thread, the key to our team is Luca Connell who is by far our biggest asset on the pitch. He's under contract having signed an extended deal so won't be easy to pry away from the club unless there's a clause in his contract which is met by a bidder. If he were to leave in January then forget the play offs imo.
The club needs to start working one window at least in front of the competition , two windows would be even better .
Something I expect a smart Director Of Football to be able to see and a policy put in place .
The one to two windows in front of our competitors is the continuity the club is desperate for .
What this means from the ownership is to stump the money up first and balance the books as sales materialise over the longer term .
I'm desperately trying to find a way to make this model work without bankrolling and remaining sustainable .
The biggest factor in this model not working as it should is the fact we are always massively vulnerable when we lose our better players , if the players are already here or even out on loan for that matter you've put yourself in a better position to navigate the sales which are inevitable .
But as I say money needs to be put up first and we go from there .
Never gonna happen unfortunately as good an idea as it is Animal. That's the fundamental flaw in the model and the reason why the club has gone backwards. You know it, I know it and the vast majority of us on here know it and have discussed it time and again. The meatheads in charge know it too deep down but won't ever veer away from their policies.
