Maynard out?

Tippy tappy is crap. Wimbledon, for God's sake, completely dominated us. We need Bros to be less invested in a failed football fad and to appoint a manager that is a proven winner, and let him get o with it in a way that gets positive results. The last quarter of the season was a monumental failure. This is as much Bros' fault as "Frustratin' Maynard's. Sorry Nodders and Pink Specs Brigade, but everything in the Notts garden is NOT rosy. My sheets are completely dry, by the way.

I thought how refreshing it was yesterday to see a team play two up front. Wimbledon got it spot on in so many ways. Great physicality all over the pitch, defended with real passion, effective with the ball, implemented their game plan perfectly both games. It was like men against boys. I swear we could play them ten times and not win.

So many lessons these last two games about what's wrong with our team and approach. I just hope our owners learn from them.

I'm tired of trying to play the "right" way when it makes no sense and isn't effective. It's not like fans are entertained by it either.

I've been on the fence about Maynard most of the season, but after these last few fames, I feel like we're going nowhere with him in charge. It's time for a change.

That said, there are factors out of his control that have made this season a challenge:

- Selling Macca and Nemane in the summer, and then Crowley in the Jan window, and not properly replacing any of them.
- Jones being injured most of the season, and everyone else being injured at some point as well.

Recruitment has been poor, and for the first time I think the bros "find them and sell them on" approach has backfired - at least if progress on the pitch is indeed the priority. We've solved the defensive issue but replaced it with perhaps a harder one to fix. Is that Maynard's fault? Yes and no. But it's clear from these two playoff games that he's not up to it tactically.

The club has been on an upward trajectory since the bros took over, but I'm concerned that this season marks a turning point. If we have a poor season next, our attendances will collapse. Time to make big decisions and be more ambitious if we want to continue to progress.

The the record, I still think it's ridiculous to want to ditch a manager who got us into the playoffs, and I still think with better luck with injuries we'd have gone up automatically this season.

The strategy's working. I would like to see better squad depth next season, but hopefully we're not as injury-dogged as well.

a fair summary but i disagree with the find them sell them approach has backfired. If by this you mean its not working then you are wrong. We have sold and reinvested in more potential whilst remaining a competitive team. The Crowley sale was due to his insistence on leaving, i would rather take the money that was offered , if the ?400,000 was correct. He could have sat on his arse doing very little and left for free. we learnt our lesson with Woots and Rodders. If i'm not mistaken i believe the owners will be looking for the correct replacement for Crowley in the summer, having not rushed it in the January window. Yes we tried a short term experiment which didn't work, Whitaker unfortunately wasn't the answer but we haven't been burnt and each can go their separate ways.

This is the likely answer and it's probably what I'd do if I owned notts.

We need some fresh faces in the squad, we need our newbies to continue to develop, we need better depth, and SM needs a loud, charismatic assistant head coach (and maybe more coaching staff).

Even without all of that, better luck with injuries would have seen us up this season. I can't look at these results and say the strategy isn't working. The strategy is working, just need to adjust our application of it.

Our style has not been the issue. Ultimately, the only thing that matters is how many times you stick the ball in the net Vs how many times the opposition do it.
We had 24 chances Vs Cheltenham and lost the game. No other style of play is going to create more chances. We just didn?t have the minerals at each end of the pitch, over the course of the season, to get us in the top 3.

Forest were one of the favourites for relegation. if you had said to their fans at the start of the season they would qualify for Europe and still be in with a chance of a champions league spot with 2 games remaining plus a Wembley semi final they would have bit your hand off or thought you were mad.
