Magic you do not seem to give credit where it is due.

As I recall the miners took on Heath and he called a general election to settle the matter of who ran the country, him or the miners. The people said it wasn't him.

Therefore when the nasty Tories came back to power they had to make sure that they didn't have those lovers of fairness and solidarity, the miners, bringing the govt down again. So with big incentives to produce more and more coal, stockpiled at power stations and pits, when the strike came, as it surely would, it was defeated by the miners own greed. Sometimes the truth hurts doesn't it Magic.

Firstly you say Heath went to the people to see who ran the country, the people won, you say, well fella, that's a general election, you're not really suggesting a union influenced the whole British public, are you?

Secondly, the NUM has always been about fairness and solidarity, whether you like it or not, the incentives to produce more coal was always there regardless of what year or political tactic was being used, remembr also, the country would have been defeated heavily in WW2 without the incentives to produce more coal for the war effort, we can all pick and choose our timelines slim.
When the strike came, a political tactic and manouvre we both agree on, it may have been defeated, but not by greed fella, you've got the miner's all wrong, that strike wasn't about money, it wasn't about working conditions, it was about jobs, and communities, a full 12 months on strike on a principle, whether you like it or not, never before and never again will folk continue a struggle like that on a community saving platform, never.

The truth? you should try it from time to time.

Unless you were a miner who didn't want to strike, in which case the NUM denied you the national ballot that its constitution required, misappropriated the funds you had paid into to make unlawful strike payments and unleashed flying pickets to intimidate you as you tried to get into work.

Please see my detailed definition of "thick" on the other post. Happy to agree to disagree on anything, but anyone who holds a view they can't explain, justify or back up with reasonable evidence when their views are examined, but persists in spouting it = "thick". Is that you and Muslim conspiracies?

You haven't expressed any opinions that Muslims are taking over UK culture? Genuine and I mean genuine, apologies if I've mixed you up with another poster but I thought I remembered you backing up good old Ellis D in his fears that Muslims were conspiring to take over UK culture? Was that not your opinion?

(I quite liked Ellis by the way. He presented a particular book written by a 'reputed' Dr that demonstrated genuine Muslim cultural dominance taking over European cities and was somewhat deflated when research (googling) showed it was a South African devout Christian bloke who had aquired his doctorate by dubious means! At least Ellis was always honest and attempted to explain and justify his views)

I only care about the future not past. I can choose my future for myself and hopefully for the better. I don't really care who says what its a free country and people can believe in alliens for all I care. That's why my Dad stood on that beach in France, so we can. Why others get up tight about what others think or say about history is beyond me.

Some people need to get a life and move forwards....UTM....that's the FUTURE!!!
