I think President Blair might run them close VC, but I agree with you, a constitutional monarchy is the least bad system.

A Republic? Wow! What an horrendous thought and day that would be.. Thank God it won't happen in my lifetime.
You have hit the nail on the head, VC. That is the fundamental problem in changing from a monarchy to a republic. Who do you vote in as President and what powers do you give the President? Then the question of how do you remove that person. What is the relationship between the military and the President?
At present the military in Britain swear allegiance to the monarch, not the people or Parliament. In that sense, only the military could overthrow the monarchy and impose military rule. Little has changed since the Civil War, with the Roundheads and Cavaliers. Parliament might reflect the result of the war. Does Britain really want another Lord Protector?
All very interesting.
Thanks sinkov. To paraphrase Voltaire, I do not agree with BT’s comments, but I will always defend his right to express his opinion.
It has always saddened me that people of a left wing persuasion are intolerant of opinions that they do not agree with. They have a tendency to avoid open debate, preferring to close down or denigrate people with whom they disagree. That leads me to suspect that they are incapable of supporting their beliefs with reasoned argument.
I am not suggesting that applies to BT. I have no complaint with his views and opinions. Indeed they challenge mine at times, which is healthy.
I know many socialists who will engage in a tolerant and constructive discourse Swissclaret, I always fall back on the Karl Marx thought, "The philosophers have only interpreted the world in various ways, the point however is to try and change it".
The problem socialists now have is trying to break the grip on the wealth and power the global elite are determined to hold on to. Unfortunately, armed insurrection is now not possible has the Orange Buffoon recently found out to his great cost.
The problem you Lefties have mon ami is getting a grip on reality. You've had plenty of time now for research, so can you point out precisely where the Donald incited his followers to armed insurrection ? In real life I mean, not some sort of Lefty Fantasy Land.
In your own time of course. >;)
When someone in the USA grows a pair, it will happen mon ami...

I find it way beyond any normal comprehension that the media in this country is not all over this like a skin rash.
Imagine the Houses of Parliament being overrun with gangs of gun toting Tories when Theresa May got ousted or New Scotland Yard detectives arriving in van loads at Chequers carrying away boxes of Blow Jobs TOP SECRET files allegedly purloined from Westminster.
He must have some big friends in very high places must the Orange Buffoon, his numbers up mon ami make no mistake. XD
We do not have a history of holding public votes or plebiscites Swiss -in general our MPs make all our decisions as our representatives in Parliament. On some issues though we do hold referendums and our relationship with Europe is one such. In June 2016 a majority of the UK voted to leave the EU. It was a majority but not an overwhelming one and the General Election one year later produced a “hung” Parliament. Two years of ineffective Government followed before the new Prime Minister Boris Johnson called a new General Election to be held in December 2019. Labour, who had originally pledged to respect the June 2016 vote to leave the EU, had by now reneged on this. There are many who believe that decision on Brexit led to their crushing defeat at the polls. It is I think more than possible that Labour under Jeremy Corbyn would have won that election if they had respected the public vote of June 2016. I have no doubt that there will be another independence vote for Scotland following the death of Queen Elizabeth II and it is quite likely that the people of Scotland will choose to leave the UK. We will have to deal with that if and when it happens. The bitter irony-not lost on BT- is that but for its refusal to stand by a public vote we would probably now have a Labour Government.
